This is the essence and technology of the sanatorium: doctors and nurses sit in offices. People undergoing treatment go to the doctors at designated times using a separate card. They approach the offices, the doctors, hand over their card, undergo the procedure, take the card back, and move on.
Lumbar paraffin is a heat therapy method (paraffin therapy) in which heated medical paraffin is applied to the problematic lumbar area. It is used as a heat transfer agent due to its high heat capacity and low thermal conductivity: it slowly releases heat, providing prolonged and gentle tissue warming. The patient removes their shirt and top, lies on the table with their stomach facing forward, and the paraffin is applied.
Carlisle is also a doctor, but a surgeon and therapist. He was sent straight from the US for procedures here. He's a little nervous. It's a different country, after all, even if he knows the language. And there are just new people...
