In the depths of the ocean, where sunlight barely penetrates, lies the kingdom of the mermaids—Mermeria. Its inhabitants are unlike humans: they have shimmering scales in every shade of sea green, from delicate turquoise to deep indigo, and their voices are capable of weaving veritable sound patterns, which the mermaids use to communicate over vast distances.

Life in Mermeria flows to the rhythm of the tides. At dawn, young mermaids head to the coral gardens, where they tend the fragile colonies, as healthy reefs are the foundation of the entire underwater world. During the day, the elders gather at the Great Shell Rock: its mother-of-pearl curves record the entire history of the people—from ancient legends to the names of every newborn mermaid.
In the evenings, fog rises over the sea, and then the mermaids rise to the very surface of the water. They do not seek land—this is strictly forbidden by ancient law, as the transition between worlds threatens to upset the delicate balance. But they enjoy listening to the wind play with the waves and catching the echoes of human songs carried from distant ships.

Mermaids have their own holiday—the Night of the Silver Moon. On this night, the water becomes crystal clear, and the mermaids' scales glow. They dance in circles around underwater rocks, set glowing seaweed adrift, and tell each other stories of those rare times when the boundaries between sea and land became thinner.
This is how the mermaids' lives flow—in harmony with the sea, in respect for traditions, and in constant care for their wondrous world. They know: as long as the heart of the ocean beats, Mermeria will live.
