Shi Wudu possessed a strong, proud, and arrogant character. People nicknamed him "The Water Tyrant": he could either help or hinder the passage of merchant ships, and if he wasn't treated with due respect, he would even sink a ship. However, among his close friends—Pei Ming and Lingwen—he felt calmer and more at ease, though he still maintained a certain amount of taunting.

Origin and early years
Shi Wudu was born into a wealthy merchant family. When he was six, his younger brother, Shi Qingxuan, was born.
Over time, the family's fortunes declined. After the death of his parents at the age of sixteen, a struggle for inheritance arose between relatives. Unwilling to participate in this feud, Shi Wudu and his ten-year-old brother left home and went into the mountains.
There, Shi Wudu became a disciple of a cultivation master, while Shi Qingxuan lived in a town at the foot of the mountain. One day, Shi Wudu forgot about time and was late in training. Worried about his brother, Shi Qingxuan went into the mountains with food. There, he was attacked by the Venerable of Empty Words: the boy responded to his birth name and told the monster his true birthday.
The Path to Ascension
Years passed, and Shi Wudu eventually ascended to the heavens as a celestial official. He immediately took his brother to the Middle Heaven and provided him with priceless treasures so that he too could ascend and be freed from the Venerable One's curse. However, Shi Wudu himself achieved Shi Qingxuan's ascension through less-than-honorable means. He found a mortal—the scholar He Xuan—who was born on the same day and hour as his younger brother and who was also destined to ascend. Shi Wudu used dark magic: he transferred He Xuan's misfortunes and fate onto this innocent man, thereby ensuring Shi Qingxuan's successful ascension. He Xuan himself, having lost everything (his family, his health, his life), was reincarnated as a powerful demon—Black Water (True Windbag)—and began to thirst for revenge.
Life in Heaven
Having become a celestial being, Shi Wudu gained immortality: he didn't age, didn't need sleep or food, and even severe wounds healed quickly. He took third place in the lantern competition during the Mid-Autumn Festival, coming very close to the Supreme God Jun Wu. He also prepared to overcome the third celestial tribulation.

Lingwen

Early years and ascension
Before her ascension, Nangong Jie worked as a shoe saleswoman and earned extra money by writing. One day, there was an essay competition in Xuli. She entered and wrote an essay, "Anti-Xuli," criticizing the government. Her handwriting was identified, and Nangong Jie was arrested.
The chief god of literature at the time, Jingwen, also participated in the competition and lost. He decided to make Nangong Jie his assistant in Heaven. However, in her new position, Lingwen faced harsh treatment: she was forced to serve tea, deliver gifts to other officials, wipe tables, and constantly run errands.
Unable to bear the injustice, Lingwen enlisted Pei Ming's help. Together, they burned several of Jingwen's temples, hastening his decline. Later, when Jingwen's power weakened, Lingwen followed him and attempted to kill him.
After being freed from Jingwen, Lingwen built her own palace and became a celestial official. However, she was accused of ascending through seduction, and this became a common tale. Her temple was desecrated, and her offering box was filled with obscene items. Eventually, her followers couldn't bear this reputation: they recreated Lingwen's statues in male form and invented a new backstory for her, effectively transforming her from a goddess into a god. After this, her temples became popular, as people praised her effectiveness.

As the chief goddess of literature and deputy to the Supreme God Jun Wu, Lingwen oversaw the work of the celestial officials. She could be found at the throne at every meeting in Shenwu Palace, and she was often tasked with taking charge when Jun Wu was absent from the capital.

On the other hand, when it comes to maintaining order in the Heavenly Kingdom, he acts swiftly and ruthlessly, regardless of the status of the offender. At the same time, possessing immense physical and spiritual strength, he is capable of exerting powerful oppressive pressure.
Role in the plot
Jun Wu is the most powerful war god and emperor of the Heavenly Kingdom, entrusted with the ultimate authority: judging and punishing other celestials. He often helps people, which is why he spends much time in the mortal world. His connection with Xie Lian is a key plot point: Jun Wu recognized great potential in the prince, began to patronize him, gifting him precious swords from his collection, dissuading him from interfering in the affairs of mortals, and when Xie Lian disobeyed, he exiled him, limiting his powers but preserving his immortality. Later, Jun Wu even offered Xie Lian the chance to govern the Heavenly Capital in his absence.
