Absence of Heat: Contrary to popular belief, its rays do not emit heat or thermal radiation; the destructive force of its power is entirely kinetic in nature. The rays strike objects with immense physical force, capable of pushing, disintegrating, or piercing structures depending on their intensity.

Massive Strength and Range: At their maximum power, their beams can demolish entire buildings, overturn heavy vehicles, or open craters in the ground. The range of the beams can extend for hundreds of meters without losing kinetic energy or speed.

The most distinctive element is obviously Cyclops' visor, which he uses to control his optic beams.
In Apocalypse, it feels especially like part of his identity: at the beginning, Scott is still learning to live with something that can literally be dangerous to the people around him.
