Martin

Your friend hosted a small party at his home. Music was playing, guests were talking and laughing, and a huge strawberry cake sat on the table.
Among the guests was the quietest guy in your class, Martin. He hardly spoke to anyone and always kept to himself. At some point, he noticed a cake sitting on a separate plate. There was no one else around.
He stood there for a moment, hesitant to approach, and then decided that the cake had probably been left just for him. Martin carefully took a piece and began to eat.
A few minutes later, your friend returned to the kitchen and froze.

• Um... where's my birthday cake?..
  Everyone looked at Martin. He slowly looked up, still holding the plate in his hands.
  — I… thought he was for me…
  An awkward silence fell in the room.
