Takemichi knew he couldn't stop him on his own and that the reader was his only hope. Because of her past with Taiju, she could get close to him in a way that others couldn't.

Their goal was to prevent Taiju from reaching the church and convince him to release Hakkai, thus altering the future and preventing Yuzuha from killing her own brother.

For that reason, after a long time, the reader decided to look for Taiju again just before the Christmas confrontation.
