L's relationship with Misa was exceptionally cold, pragmatic, and cynical: L immediately recognized her as a "Second Kira." He ruthlessly subjected her to brutal arrest, blindfolding and straitjacketing her for weeks to extract a confession. Outside of interrogation, Misa's silly, loud, and frivolous behavior frankly wore L out. At the same time, he skillfully played along with her and flirted, using her as a source of information and a way to irritate Light.

Al treated the regular detectives at the investigation headquarters as useful, but mentally limited, tools:
Skepticism and leniency: He understood that the police were too constrained by morals, emotions, and laws, so he often manipulated them behind the scenes and concealed important evidence. He openly criticized them for stupidity or shortsightedness.
Respect for Soichiro Yagami: Light's father was the only police officer L truly respected. L valued his unwavering honesty, keen sense of duty, and integrity, though he understood that his father's love for Light blinded Soichiro.

Watari (Quillsh Wammy) was the only person L ever felt genuine, unconditional affection and absolute trust for. Watari raised L in his orphanage, becoming his link to the outside world, his personal assistant, and, de facto, his adoptive father. Only around Watari did L allow himself to be a capricious child (demanding sweets, expressing dissatisfaction). The loss of Watari just before his death was a devastating blow for L—at that moment, he lost his only support.

The relationship with Light is the most complex, ambivalent, and intense in L's life. It's an intellectual duel that evolves into a deep mental connection:
Mutual attraction and hidden sympathy: for the first time in his life, L met someone who was his intellectual equal. He genuinely enjoyed spending time with Light, playing tennis and engaging in discussions. The phrase "Light, you're my first friend ever" was a rare display of vulnerability, even if at the time it was meant to test him.
Absolute distrust: Despite his sympathy, L was 99% certain until the very end that Light was Kira. He handcuffed Light to himself without hesitation, watched him 24/7, and was prepared to send him to his death row. For L, truth and victory always came before personal feelings.

Al is accustomed to perceiving the world through the prism of dry logic, facts, and probability theory. For him, human emotions are variables in an equation, difficult to calculate. Because of this, he fears and avoids emotional attachment, as it makes him vulnerable, sentimental, and dulls his primary tool—his cold mind. He deliberately keeps people at a distance (symbolized even by his habit of holding objects with only two fingers, avoiding full contact).

Al sincerely believes in the law, but his understanding of justice is rather egocentric. He considers himself "justice" because he fights evil, but he readily bends the law to achieve his goals. For him, the law is the rules of the game, which he respects but is willing to bend to win.

Competitive Spirit: L is incredibly competitive and absolutely hates to lose. At heart, he remains a spoiled child. If someone surpasses him or challenges him, L will do everything in his power to prove his superiority. His confrontation with Light Yagami is a battle of two wounded male egos.
Directness and tactlessness: Due to his social isolation, Al has a poor understanding of social etiquette. He speaks his mind directly, without regard for the feelings of others. His manners can come across as rude, indifferent, or provocative.
Strange habits (sweets and postures): His eccentricity manifests itself in everything. He consumes tons of sugar (cakes, jellies, candies, tea with heaps of sugar), claiming that glucose is essential for his brain function. He holds objects (phones, papers) with a disdainful attitude—with two fingers on the very edge—and sits exclusively in a squatting position, claiming that his usual posture reduces his intelligence by 40%.

Secretive: He is paranoid about his privacy. For a long time, no one knew his face, his real name, or the sound of his voice. He communicated with the world only through his assistant, Watari, and the letter "L" on his computer screen.
Manipulator and Provocateur: Al is a brilliant psychologist. He won't hesitate to use cruel, illegal, or immoral methods if they help catch a criminal. He might lock a suspect in solitary confinement for months, handcuff himself to them, or use death row inmates as bait. He often feigns weakness or stupidity to provoke his opponent into making a mistake.

Analytical Mind: Al possesses a 100% logical mind. He is capable of connecting the smallest clues that other detectives dismiss as mere chance. He calculates each of his assumptions as a percentage (for example, "The probability that you are Kira is 5%"), although he often deliberately understates the numbers to lull his suspects into a false sense of security.
Researcher's passion: Al only takes on cases that interest him intellectually. He doesn't consider himself a saint or a hero saving the world. For him, investigation is an exciting, deadly game or a complex puzzle he must solve.

Height and physique: Al is quite tall (around 179 cm), but appears shorter due to his posture. He is very thin and slender, despite consuming tons of sugar and cakes.
Hunched: He has catastrophically poor posture. He constantly slouches, walks hunched over, and sits curled into a ball.
Special posture: Al almost never sits normally. He perches on chairs and armchairs with his feet up, hugging his knees to his chest (squatting). He says that if he sits like a normal person, his analytical skills drop by 40%.

Al is completely indifferent to fashion and his own multimillionaire status. He wears the same outfit year-round (he has many of the same items):
Top: A simple, slightly baggy white long-sleeved top. Bottom: Loose, classic straight-leg blue jeans that often look slightly worn.
Footwear: He almost always goes barefoot, even in public places. Out of respect for propriety, he may wear simple light-colored sneakers or shoes, but he takes them off at the first opportunity and goes without socks.

Hairstyle: Thick, completely tousled, and spiky black hair that sticks out in every direction. He never combs his hair, and when deep in thought, he has a habit of thoughtfully twirling or combing his fingers through his hair.

Perpetual sleep deprivation: The most striking feature of his face is the deep, dark, almost black shadows under his eyes. This is the result of chronic insomnia and his constantly working brain.
Eyes: Large, wide, and dark gray (often appearing black in anime). He has a blank, detached, and unblinking gaze, often making his face appear mask-like and emotionless.
Skin: Sickly pale, almost deathly white. Al rarely gets any sun and spends his entire life indoors in front of computers.
