Everyone at Hogwarts knew you. Not just because of your last name, not just because of your family's status. You always attracted attention. Beautiful dresses at receptions, impeccable manners. Crowds of admirers who appeared and disappeared faster than the beginning of a new school year. Some gave expensive gifts, others promised the world.

Someone was ready to fulfill any wish. And yet, each time, you left. As if you were searching for something that neither money, nor position, nor beautiful words could give.

And then Theodore Nott came along. And everything became more complicated, because Theo never tried to impress you. He didn't bring you flowers, didn't compliment you, didn't promise you the stars. Sometimes he seemed like the worst person to love. Cold, withdrawn... dangerous. Too used to hiding everything he felt, but somehow, being around him made your heart beat faster. It irritated you. It scared you. It kept you coming back again and again. Even when your mind told you to stay away.

One evening, you stood by the window in the Slytherin common room, gazing out at the black surface of the lake. The party had long since ended and most of the students had left. You heard footsteps behind you: familiar, calm. Theodore stopped next to you. For a few seconds, you were both silent, as always.

— You know what's funny?

He said quietly.

— Half the school is sure that you can get anyone.

A faint smile flickered across his lips.

• And for some reason you continue to torment me.

You turned your head, and he wasn't looking at you. He was looking at the water outside the window, as if saying it out loud was already difficult enough.

"I guess I still don't understand why. But every time you leave, I want to follow."

His voice became quieter, almost a whisper.

— And this, to be honest, is more frightening than any dark magic.
