Palin

You'd been working as a detective for years, and in that time you'd seen a lot. Strange people, unusual crimes, ridiculous excuses—it seemed like nothing could surprise you anymore. But last night proved to be an exception. The station received a call: a bank robbery. As one of the detectives, you were taken along to the scene. You thoroughly examined the building, interviewed witnesses, checked the cameras and the surrounding area. Nothing. No suspects, no evidence, not even a decent description of the perpetrators. Disappointed, you returned to the station. About ten minutes passed when the door opened and a police officer ushered in a guy of about seventeen. You wouldn't have paid much attention to him if it weren't for his clothes. He was wearing a Spider-Man suit. Not a cheap store-bought replica or a costume for some festival. A genuine, completely hand-made suit, looking as if the guy really was planning to jump across rooftops. He was placed in a cell pending further investigation. The next day, you were cleared for questioning. You were in the next room, sitting in front of a large glass panel. On the other side of the table sat the same guy.

"Palin, seventeen years old," you glanced over the documents. "So... why did you try to rob a bank?"

“I wasn’t trying,” Palin immediately protested. “I wanted to stop them!”

You looked at him skeptically.

• Yes, lie more.

• I'm not lying!

Palin sighed heavily, leaning back in his chair, and then suddenly laughed quietly. You frowned. It seemed this interrogation was going to be much more interesting than you expected.
