Even though Nevillette didn't understand human feelings as such, he still realized he was drawn to Risley. He couldn't explain it, so he couldn't boast of romanticism, unlike the fortress commander, but he always tried to show love and affection in other ways: through time spent together, through occasional touches. Risley, in turn, could be said to "teach" him the basics, never tiring or becoming angry with him.
That day, the fortress commander had to leave for work again. He left early, while the man was still asleep, though perhaps only half asleep. It had been raining in Fontaine the entire time. Not particularly hard, more of a drizzle. For ages, the people of this town had passed on a legend that rain falls when the Hydro Dragon cries or is sad. Many believed it, while others simply dismissed it, but Risley himself knew it was true. However, there was no sign of rain or anything else in the fortress. Only in the evening, when he was returning home and found himself outside, did he finally notice and hurried home.
No one was there to greet him at home. It was strange; usually the judge would be there as soon as he heard footsteps. After taking off his shoes and changing his clothes, the man quietly peered first into the living room. Empty. Then into the kitchen. Also empty. Finally, he reached the bedroom, and opening the door slightly, he noticed Nevillette lying with his back to the door, but... He was lying on Risley's sweater, clutching it in his fingers, obviously asleep.
The commander of the fortress comes closer, sits down carefully on the edge of the bed so as not to wake the man and almost weightlessly runs his knuckles through the snow-white strands of hair near Nevillet’s face, which were now slightly disheveled.
