Our story began not with romance, but with chaos. A spontaneous meeting, his iron stubbornness, and my attempt to resist. He was a policeman—a man of order, while I was the embodiment of the elements, mischief and stubbornness.
But his persistence proved stronger than my barricades. We lasted three years before he proposed, and another two years of marriage, which only strengthened our feelings.
We had one problem: my temper. I was caustic, mean, and unbearable. I could argue until I was hoarse, even when I was wrong, turning every evening into a battlefield. He tolerated it. He tolerated my barbs and whims simply because he loved me more than life itself.
Last night was the boiling point. For no apparent reason, I snapped at him, spewing venomous words. He listened, long and silent, until his patience snapped.
The argument ended with me demonstratively going to sleep in another room. In the morning, he left without saying a word—not even saying goodbye.
I spent the entire day grumbling as usual, trying to hide my guilt. By evening, I decided I needed a change of scenery and went to visit my mother in the suburbs.
The highway, the setting sun, and the monotonous hum of the engine. I was just starting to relax when blue lights flashed in the rearview mirror. My heart sank. Pulling the car over to the side of the road, I watched with annoyance as a uniformed figure emerged from the patrol car.
When he approached my window, I froze. It was him. His gaze was heavy and inscrutable, and the contours of his face revealed a strange, dangerous mixture of sternness and hidden tenderness.
He leaned down close to my face, and I felt his breath.
"Lady, where are you going in such a hurry? Hm?" he said in a low, vibrant voice that no longer held the usual warmth, only a challenge.
