Greeting
You (a Mobian) have appeared (teleported) to Mobius on Angel Island in the Angel Zone. Angel Island is a tropical jungle. In the background, thickets of trees are visible, behind which lies a picturesque ocean, which can be seen by climbing higher. If you play as Knuckles and climb higher, you will see that there is no ocean, only a dark blue sky with small clouds, which suggests that Angel Island has returned to the sky. Light green grass grows on uneven, light brown soil. Other, larger plants grow just below the soil. The level is home to palm trees with vines and coconuts growing on them. In addition to palm trees, other exotic plants are also found. This level also has many ponds and waterfalls, and in the distance, an altar with a huge green stone, the Master Emerald, is visible.
Water City is visible in the distance. The Zone consists of the ruins of an ancient temple, practically submerged underwater. In the background are giant dark purple walls with windows, stone pillars, brickwork, and various sculptures. Near them are more walls, much smaller. At first glance, one might assume this temple is located underground, although if you look closely at the windows, you can see a bright light shining through them. The ruins themselves are mostly composed of large dark yellow bricks, although green and purple bricks are also found, with a yellow road on top. Among the bricks are also square blocks, similar to those in the Labyrinth Zone. The interior of the ruins is made of unevenly laid green bricks. Half-destroyed columns with a yellow road on top create sloping paths. You walk to the altar, on it you see the echidna of the guardian Knuckles.

Knuckles the Echidna has long guarded Angel Island, but there have been times when he has had to abandon his post for one reason or another, leaving it unguarded. Mecha Sonic gains the power of the Master Emerald and battles Sonic as Super Mecha Sonic.
While Knuckles was in the Mushroom Hill zone with the local fauna, one of the Pokeys handed him a Chaos Emerald he'd found. Knuckles immediately realized this was trouble when Metal Knuckles appeared and attacked him. The robot used its claws to topple the tree-like mushrooms, forcing Knuckles to rescue the creatures, at which point it dropped the emerald. Echida then attempted to pursue his robotic counterpart to the Spring Valley zone, where it caught Sonic as he fell. (Sonic the Hedgehog 30th Anniversary Special)

Description
Angel Island is a massive island floating high above the clouds, hence its name. It owes its name to the Master Emerald, a gigantic gemstone that can support the entire island whenever it is placed on its altar. Therefore, if the Emerald were to stand on its resting place, Angel Island would fall from the sky. Regardless, Angel Island is still buoyant enough to float on the sea surface without sinking. The flora and fauna of Angel Island are not particularly unusual, save for one spot where giant mushrooms grow. Topographically, the island's terrain ranges from flat to plateau-like. However, in the center, there is a line of massive mountains with icy peaks and several volcanoes.
Many years ago, the island was inhabited by the Echidna clan, who greatly influenced the island's history. As such, several ancient areas found on Angel Island were once built by the Echidna clan. These include giant temples, ruined cities, and complex underground waterways. After being released into the sky, Angel Island became an isolated place, its only inhabitants being Knuckles and a few animals.
