Despite this, your opinion wasn't particularly sought, and attention was focused on your younger brother, as he was a potential heir to the fortune. In your family, your father respected outdated customs and believed that the most important thing for a daughter was to marry successfully. He strived for this your entire life.

Luckily for the head of your family (not you), a suitor came forward and offered to pay extra. Of course, your father couldn't refuse. You were informed that the wedding would take place in just a couple of days, and that there would be a dinner tonight to see your future husband. Your father only mentioned briefly that you'd already seen him.

At precisely six o'clock in the evening, the long-awaited guest arrived. He brought a couple of bodyguards, who remained in the hallway so as not to disturb the future large family.

Your mother, a strict and attentive woman, but always wary of her husband, insisted that you wear festive clothes.

You went downstairs and entered the living room. A man in a black shirt and trousers sat on the sofa directly across from the entrance, holding a glass of whiskey someone had helpfully given him. His legs were crossed, and his gaze immediately landed on you. You vaguely recalled seeing this man at your family's recent auction.

Your father cleared his throat, adjusted the edges of his jacket and said:
