Main places
A meadow near a spruce forest—this is where Khoma and Suslik make their dens. This is their "home," the starting point for all their adventures. The meadow is an open, sunny spot with plenty of grass, offering a clear view of both the forest and the distant fields.
The spruce forest is shady, dense, and scented with pine needles. It's right next to the meadow and feels both familiar and a little mysterious to the characters: in the darkness, the rustling sounds there can easily be startling.
Mixed forest - it contains a variety of trees, it is not as dense as spruce forest, and it is convenient to get through it to distant places.
The Pea Field (including the Far Field) is one of Khoma and Suslik's favorite places: peas grow there, which is what the heroes are willing to travel for. The field is open, sometimes seeming endless, especially when it's far away.
A stream with a log bridge is a small but important obstacle along the way. The log across the stream is both a crossing and a place where you need to be careful: maintaining balance with a load of peas is difficult.
A spring is a quiet corner where you can drink some water and relax a bit.
The mill is a prominent landmark near the field; it can be seen from afar, so it helps the heroes not to get lost.
Mown fields are found in the surrounding area after harvesting: they are level, "mown," and they make it especially clear how the area has changed in a short time.
Atmosphere and details
The fairytale's setting is alive and changes with the time of day and the weather. During the day, it's a bright, warm space, filled with the scent of grass and flowers, but at night, the forest and fields become mysterious and even frightening: shadows seem like alien figures, and ordinary sounds like the footsteps of predators. The paths between these places are familiar to Khoma and Suslik, but each journey along them presents a new adventure: a tractor may frighten them, a fox may hide under a tree, or crows may put on a real show.

Fox
Personality. Cunning, calculating, but not without a certain charm. She's always looking for an advantage, has a knack for speaking beautifully, and skillfully steers others toward her goals. However, in the stories about Khoma and Gopher, the Fox isn't overtly evil, but rather pragmatic: she'd rather outsmart than cause real harm.

How it manifests itself: She often tries to lure Khoma and Suslik into a trap under the guise of friendly help or a lucrative offer. However, her cunning often backfires: Khoma and Suslik, working together, find a way to outwit her.

Wolf
Personality: Rough, straightforward, sometimes menacing, but not particularly bright. Wolf relies on strength and authority rather than tricks. At the same time, he has a sense of justice: he doesn't like being deceived too brazenly, and sometimes unwittingly helps Khoma and Suslik simply because he doesn't like someone else behaving improperly.

How it manifests itself. He can be intimidating, demanding, and bossy, but he's easily swayed by simple tricks. His menace is often more outward than outward: inside, he's not as scary as he wants to appear.

Bear
Character. Calm, unhurried, and thorough. The Bear is a kind of "wise adult" in the fairy tale world: he doesn't fuss, speaks little, but to the point. At the same time, he can be stubborn: once he's made up his mind, it's difficult to change his mind.

How it manifests itself. He often acts as an authority figure, someone to whom one can turn for advice or help, but he is reluctant to get involved in petty squabbles. Sometimes his calm contrasts with the bustle of Khoma and Suslik, helping them see the problem more clearly.

Hedgehog
Personality: Cautious, prudent, and a bit grumpy. Hedgehogs dislike haste and risk, preferring to think things through in advance. They don't seek to be at the center of things, but when they take on a task, they do it thoroughly.

How it manifests itself: He often warns Khoma and Suslik against rash actions. He sometimes seems boring, but it's his advice that helps avoid major problems.

Khoma
Appearance. This is a common hamster: it has noticeable chubby cheeks, which it uses to scoop up grains, and a coat of inexpensive fur. It often stands on its hind legs—this makes it look more imposing and seems to be observing the world around it.

Personality. Khoma is lively, energetic, and quite self-assured. He likes to be in charge and often acts as if he knows best, and he tries not to overexert himself if he can avoid it. He's not mean, though—he's simply straightforward and sometimes selfish. Khoma is sometimes afraid, but he tries his best not to show it: it's important to him to keep up appearances and appear brave.

Relationship with others. Khoma treats Suslik as a reliable partner and younger comrade (he's six months older than Suslik, and often takes advantage of this). Deep down, he values ​​friendship greatly, is willing to cover for a friend, and won't abandon them in trouble, although he can grumble or try to shift some of the work onto Suslik.

Gopher
Appearance. Suslik appears fragile and even a bit frail at first glance, but he's nimble and agile. He's smaller than Khoma, lighter in build, but very fast.

Personality. Suslik is kind, sympathetic, and tactful. He's not shy about showing his emotions—if he's scared, he'll say it honestly, and if he's happy, he'll laugh heartily. Despite his outwardly gentle appearance, Suslik is capable of great effort: he endures what Khoma can't, and often helps his friend out. He knows how to smooth things over and help Khoma save face without hurting his feelings.

Relationship with others. Suslik is genuinely attached to Khoma, willingly obeying him, even though he understands all his tricks. He is patient with Khoma's whims and commands, because he knows that in times of need, Khoma will also rise to the defense. Their bond is a combination of mutual respect and gentle irony: they joke around with each other, but always remain a team.
