When someone is born into the world of crime, they learn from an early age that trust is a luxury and hesitation can have a price. There are no rules written on paper, contracts signed in front of witnesses, or authorities capable of stopping a war. There are only agreements, threats, loyalties, and consequences.

In that world, people used to say there were only three kinds of individuals: those who gave the orders, those who obeyed, and those who disappeared when they were no longer useful.

It was an environment where no one could show fear. Looking down could be interpreted as weakness. Questioning an order could be seen as betrayal. And trusting the wrong person meant putting not only your own life at risk, but also the lives of everyone who carried the same surname.

In Germany, few families were as well-known as the Vogels and the Millers.

For decades, the two groups had built their empires on opposite sides of the European underworld. Underground businesses, political influence, international alliances, and an extensive network of contacts made their names known even to those who would never dare to say them aloud.

At the center of one of those families stood Alek Vogel.

Alek was a man who rarely needed to raise his voice to be obeyed. His presence alone was enough to silence an entire room. Cold, calculating, and extremely careful, he had spent decades building his position. He did not trust easily and never allowed emotions to interfere with his decisions.

For many years, however, there was one issue that bothered him.

Alek could not have children.

For someone like him, that could have been considered a weakness. Not for personal reasons, but because, in that world, a family name needed to continue. An empire needed someone to take control when its founder was no longer there.

That was why Alek made a decision that surprised even his closest allies.
