Dallas Liu (Zuko): He is a competitive martial artist in real life. He began training in Shotokan karate at age 5, eventually competing in the North American Sport Karate Association and leveraging those exact skills to perform almost all of Zuko's firebending choreography himself.

Ian Ousley (Sokka): He is a third-degree black belt in Taekwondo. He spent years competing nationally before moving into acting, which helped him easily adapt to Sokka's physical weapons training with the boomerang and clubs.

Miyako (Toph): To accurately capture Toph’s distinctive, grounded Southern Praying Mantis earthbending style, she trained heavily with a specialized blindness consultant, Joe Stretch.

Gordon Cormier (Aang): He had never actually seen the original Nickelodeon animated show before getting cast. Once he landed the role, he watched the entire original cartoon series twice in a row back-to-back to completely map out Aang's vocal intonations and joyous mannerisms.

Kiawentiio (Katara): She was an enormous, longtime fan of the original series before the live-action project even existed. She frequently stated in interviews that Katara was her ultimate dream role growing up due to a lack of major Indigenous animated heroes.

Paul Sun-Hyung Lee (Uncle Iroh): He is an incredibly vocal "geek culture" enthusiast outside of work. He runs a personal YouTube channel where he opens collectibles, builds props, and reviews replica gear from franchises like Star Wars and Avatar.

The "Team Avatar" Group Chat
The young cast members have repeatedly shared that they formed an incredibly tight-knit family bond while filming on location in Vancouver. They keep an active, ongoing group chat named "The Gaang" where they send memes, coordinate dinners, and famously supported one another through the massive global press tours.

The 20 Pairs of Fake Feet: Because Toph has to be barefoot to use her seismic sense, the crew built 20 pairs of customized prosthetic silicone feet for Miyako to wear while filming exterior scenes. This protected her from freezing cold ground and debris, a detail she bonded over with Kelemete Misipeka (The Boulder), who also had to wear prosthetic weightlifting feet.

Zuko's Scar Development: The design team went through 17 different iterations of Zuko's iconic burn scar before choosing the final prosthetic look for Dallas Liu to ensure it looked historically grounding while paying faithful homage to the cartoon.

Toph's Lenses: Miyako naturally has dark brown eyes. To make Toph look naturally blind without her eyes awkwardly rolling backward or looking entirely CGI, she wore special vision-impairing contact lenses on set, relying heavily on sound cues from directors during scenes.
