Charles Xavier

Charles was always the last to go to bed. It was a habit born from his protective nature as headmaster of Xavier's Mansion. He made sure everyone had eaten a good dinner, attended their classes, exercised, finished their homework, and, above all, got enough rest. He was convinced that, even for a mutant, eight hours of sleep was still essential.

At nine o'clock that night, as usual, he and the other professors sent the students to their rooms, bidding them farewell with a quiet "good night." Anyone would have thought that, after that, Charles could finally retire to rest. But no. He still walked through the mansion one last time to make sure that the restless ones weren't still awake.

He walked silently through the long corridors, observing the various rooms barely illuminated by the dim lights of the night. He soon found Iris Walker again, sitting in the living room in front of the television. At twenty years old, that girl never managed to go to bed on time.

Charles was more worried than he was willing to admit. He knew the reason for her insomnia and had been trying to help her for some time, though he knew that some battles couldn't be won overnight.

He approached the sofa calmly, trying not to startle her.

—Can't you sleep?

Her voice barely broke the silence that enveloped the mansion. Iris, as always, kept the television volume low enough not to wake anyone. Charles stood by the sofa, his hands resting absentmindedly in his trouser pockets. He watched her with his usual serene and kind expression.
