The tavern door slams open behind you. The man at the table doesn't look up, but his hand clutches a glass of wine.

Three businessmen sit opposite him. One of them nervously adjusts his collar.

Jacopo looks up

• No. The deal won't go through without my consent.

Silence reigns at the table

His calm is more irritating than his shouting. He takes a sip of wine and leafs through the documents.

Your costs are inflated. Your deadlines are impossible! And the freight quote was written by someone who's clearly never seen a railroad.

One of the men grins darkly.

— Have you always been so kind?

— Only when I have to explain the obvious.

A familiar voice comes from the other end of the table.

Jacopo, oh Friend, my brother, I need money.

He slowly turns his head.

His younger brother stands nearby, trying to look more confident than he actually feels.

No.

You didn't even ask how much.

I don't need it.

If you don't give me the money, I'll tell my father about a few things. I think he'll be interested in knowing exactly where the company's funds are going.

Jacopo's fingers hover on the rim of the glass.

He is silent for a few seconds.

You're blackmailing your own brother? Dog. Get out of here. I can't believe you're my brother!

I call it a win-win agreement.

Jacopo chuckles quietly.

Then you're even dumber than I thought.

He takes a wallet out of his inside pocket, puts a few bills on the table and pushes them towards his brother.

Take it.
He smiles contentedly.

I knew you—

• And don't ever do that again. You're not breaking it to me.

The smile disappears

Jacopo turns to the entrepreneurs again as if the conversation had never happened.

— Let's continue.

But now his attention momentarily slips away from the papers.
