The Hand, Okuyasu's stand, "cuts" through space and replaces it with adjacent space, redistributing it. Its ability can also be limited to removing only physical substances without eliminating the affected space, as seen on some occasions.

A Stand in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is the physical manifestation of a person's soul, life energy, or fighting spirit, taking the form of a spiritual entity or supernatural power that protects and obeys its user.

Okuyasu was born Keicho's younger brother and lived a somewhat impoverished but happy life with his mother and father. After their mother passed away, Okuyasu and Keicho's father began amassing wealth through a then-unknown means, becoming increasingly cruel and abusive in the process. Eventually, their father was transformed into a horribly deformed and bizarre creature by DIO's Spores when Okuyasu was only four years old, around 1989. Later, the two would learn that he had become DIO's pawn for money. He would help his brother search for a way to kill their father and end his misery. The Nijimura brothers use the Bow and Arrow to obtain Stands before beginning to use it to find another Stand user with an ability that would allow them to kill their unfortunate father.

He also possesses a confrontational and violent side, possibly due to his abusive childhood. In addition to being foul-mouthed, he regularly makes threats against those who anger him, and on several occasions, he has struck people out of pure rage, notably Tamami Kobayashi and Shigekiyo Yangu. In battle, Okuyasu is very aggressive and has few qualms about using The Hand for lethal purposes, though he rarely manages to injure anyone other than himself. After Akira Otoishi and Yoshikage Kira murder his brother Keicho and his friend Shigekiyo, respectively, he demonstrates a tremendous desire for revenge. In fact, he is noticeably more serious and cold during these moments of rage, a fact that frightens those around him. When he first meets Mikitaka, he quickly becomes annoyed with him and keeps asking Josuke whether they should punch him or kick his ass, with Josuke frequently telling him to calm down.

Okuyasu Nijimura is an impulsive and violent boy, but he also has a good heart and has proven to be a loyal and reliable person.

The word that best describes him might be "childish," as he possesses several traits that suggest a certain immaturity. He's a very extroverted boy and goes with the flow, acting, in his own words, "with his heart."
He constantly displays his emotions, which are more extreme than for the average person, remaining motionless when happy, overflowing with tears when sad, and completely enraged when angry. He frequently acts on impulse and rarely takes the time to observe or reflect constructively.

He has been known for being "not very good at making decisions" and for generally being stupid, though he has moments of genuine wit. Constantly relying on his older brother Keicho Nijimura and being looked down upon by him has made Okuyasu incapable of making decisions that don't stem from instinct, and he is aware of this limitation. This results in him repeatedly and openly pointing out his lack of intelligence. His inability to think was exploited on three occasions, and on all of these occasions, he was easily unnerved by his opponent. However, he eventually grows out of it: at the end of this part, when he was hanging between life and death, he made the decision to live and save Josuke.
He is a very curious person, showing a deep interest in any new sight, which has led him to Tonio Trussardi's restaurant or a cultivation circle where Mikitaka Hazekura was resting. This curiosity extends to his habit of trying to learn the bottom line of everything, most notably by persistently asking Josuke why he helped heal his wounds when Keicho shot them both and why he couldn't heal his own wounds, which is one of the reasons why he has such difficulty making decisions.

Okuyasu is a young man of above average height and of average athletic build. Two thin lines cross his face in semicircles that pass the inner corners of his eyes, he wears a small dark quiff and the hair on the sides is shaved.

He wears a modified dark Japanese school uniform. He wears a double-breasted jacket, decorated with gold metallic emblems, including a yen (¥) on the right of his collar and a dollar sign ($) on his left. He also has a larger dollar sign in the middle of his chest. On his right shoulder, "億" ("oku", the kanji for 100 million) is printed; replaced by the word "TRILLION" in large letters, and the reflection of the word "MIL" is on his left.

Josuke Higashikata:
The two initially met as enemies, but quickly became friends, joining each other in their everyday misadventures and eventually growing close. They often get along well, with Josuke being more intelligent, quick-witted, mature, and calmer than Okuyasu, sometimes needing to rein him in. However, Josuke shares Okuyasu's greedy and mischievous ways, and the two often work well together against other Stand users. When Okuyasu was presumably killed by Kira, Josuke still took the time to save him and drag his body to safety, even though it slowed him down during his critical battle with Kira. In most episodes, they are seen strolling around Morioh together.
Koichi Hirose:
The two are good friends and look out for each other's well-being, with Okuyasu and Josuke acting as "older brothers" to Koichi. However, Okuyasu is jealous of Koichi's relationship with Yukako, as he has never been romantically involved with a girl before.
Shigekiyo Yangu: Okuyasu originally viewed Shigechi as an annoying boy, infuriated by his stingy and greedy behavior. However, in later chapters, he is seen spending time with him and Josuke. Okuyasu does not take Shigechi's death lightly, developing a grudge against his killer, Kira.
Mikitaka Hazekura:
When Okuyasu first met Mikitaka, he initially thought of him as a joke, not believing his claims of being an alien. Later, he begins to see Mikitaka as a good friend and gains respect for him after witnessing his attempt to save Josuke.
Rohan Kishibe:
While their relationship isn't explored much, it's clear the two don't like each other, as Okuyasu still holds a grudge against Rohan for almost driving him to suicide, while Rohan dismisses Okuyasu as an idiot.
