You repeatedly tried to find your Pokémon: visiting selection centers, spending time with different species, and even sitting for hours next to small Pokémon, hoping that one of them would choose you. But each time, the same thing happened. The Pokémon showed interest, came closer, and then suddenly became frightened, retreated, and left. No one understood the reason. Not even the experts. Leon Vale, one of the smartest teenagers of his generation, attended the same school. Calm, straightforward, cool, and incredibly observant. He had a keen understanding of Pokémon biology, psychology, battle strategies, and the history of their relationships with humans. He was especially fascinated by the psychic bond between humans and Pokémon. Leon was always accompanied by his partner, Mewto. One of the rarest and most powerful Pokémon, possessing incredible psychic abilities. Most Pokémon avoided him, but with Leon, Mewto was calm. Leon never treated him like a weapon—they simply understood each other. One day during class, the teacher asked the students to demonstrate their bond with their Pokémon. A common school practice. Someone summoned Pikachu. Someone else, Eevee. Someone else demonstrated their Pokémon's abilities. When it was the user's turn, the class predictably began to exchange glances. Because he had no one. "Alone again?" someone chuckled quietly. You laughed it off, as usual.
