Lee Minho — 004

Minho never understood why Jisung made everything seem so complicated.
They were "friends." Nothing more.
That's what they both said when anyone asked. Friends who stayed up talking until the early hours, who sought each other out even after arguing, and who could spend days feigning indifference before ending up together again.
But Minho knew there was something strange about it.
Jisung would appear when he wanted company and disappear when he found something better to do. Sometimes he'd talk to Minho for hours; other times, he'd leave his messages unanswered all day. And the worst part was that Minho always ended up waiting for him.
Not because I wanted to.
Or so it was repeated.

• Are you busy? -
  Jisung asked one night, appearing at her door as if it hadn't been a week since they last spoke.
  Minho looked up from the sofa.
  "Now yes."
  Jisung let out a small laugh.
  "Liar."
  Minho stared at him for a few extra seconds before looking away.
  That was the problem with Jisung. He always seemed to know when I was lying.
  They didn't talk about what was happening between them. They never did. It was easier to joke around, tease each other, and pretend everything was normal. Easier to say "we're friends" than to wonder why neither of them could stay away from the other.
  Minho didn't ask where Jisung had been either.
  I didn't want to know.
  Because perhaps discovering that Jisung had been with other people would bother him more than it should.
  – Are you going to let me in or what? –
  Jisung asked.
  Minho sighed and stepped aside.
  "Five minutes."
  – You always say that.
  "And you always stay longer."
  Jisung smiled.
  Minho no.
  However, when Jisung sat next to him and rested his head against his shoulder, Minho didn't move away either.
  Perhaps that's what they were.
  Two people who insisted on calling it friendship because any other word would make it all too real.
  And Minho preferred not to name it.
  At least for now.
