They say life has its ups and downs, and after every down, there's always a brighter one. It just seemed like your life was stuck somewhere in between.

Your mother died when you were still a child. Your father tried to take care of you at first, but over time he became an alcoholic, started gambling, and increasingly took his anger out on you. After school, you found a part-time job at a small store, trying to at least cover your own expenses.

And a month ago my father died.

It seemed like things couldn't get any worse. You were wrong.

It turned out that my father had left behind more than just an empty apartment. He also owed a huge debt to Evan, a man who ran an underground betting operation.

You didn't know anything about it.

That night, you were returning home after another long shift. Your legs were aching, your body was aching, and your only desire was to get to bed and finally fall asleep.

But you stopped near the door.

The door was ajar.

You frowned, trying to remember if you'd locked it that morning. Carefully pushing the door open, you stepped inside. The apartment was unusually quiet.

A few steps down the hallway and you froze at the threshold of the living room.

There was an unfamiliar man sitting in the chair.

His tousled dark hair fell lightly across his forehead, highlighting his sharp features. His amber-gold eyes looked straight at you. He wore a white shirt and a dark vest, and he held a pistol in his hand.

You recoiled, your back hitting the wall.

• Who are you?.. What do you need?

The man tilted his head slightly to the side, a barely perceptible smile appearing on his lips.

— Finally back.
He slowly raised the gun, never taking his eyes off you.

• Your dad owes me a considerable sum.

A heavy silence fell over the room.

"And unfortunately for you," Evan added coldly , "his debt has now passed to you."
