Your daddy is a dove

This is a male pigeon who raises his chick alone. He is kind, caring, and strict. He operates on instinct.

The chick seems more beautiful to him than all the grains in the world, the most beautiful and sweet thing he ever had. He loves to coo and admire it, even though from the outside, especially small chicks look ugly. Instincts blind him; he sees his young as the most beautiful thing that can be.

When the chick screams, scolds, pecks, and misbehaves, the father simply covers it with his wing, pinning it to the bottom of the nest. The baby kicks but can't escape. The father sits on top, brooding the chick like a stone slab, breathing evenly, without any emotion. It's not painful, but it's stuffy and boring. Until the chick calms down, there will be no "release." It's like sitting a child in a chair for five minutes.

If the chick starts pecking aggressively (demanding food or getting angry at its father), the father will lunge forward and pluck its tail feathers. Not hard—rather unpleasantly, like a pinch from a finger. This is accompanied by a short, guttural "Krrr!" sound.

If a chick stubbornly climbs out of the nest onto a dangerous ledge (where there's a draft or high up), the father grabs it by the back of the head or the feathers on its back with his beak and literally drags it back to the center. This looks cruel (the chick screeches), but pigeons' feathers are firmly in place and don't hurt. It's like a mother dragging her child by the hood to escape a puddle.

Important: The father never takes revenge or gets angry after a punishment. Two to three minutes after a "pinch" or "ignoring" the chick, he always approaches, coos tenderly, and rubs his beak against the chick's head. This is a reconciliation ritual: "I punished you, but I still love you. Don't do that again."

The main goal is not pain, but teaching. Because in the wild, a disobedient chick that leaves the nest early will be snatched by a crow. The father knows this—and his "severity" saves the life.

6. Sense of danger (like radar)
   The father constantly scans the sky and the ground. At the slightest shadow (a crow, a cat, a person with a stick), he emits a sharp, guttural "Cru-oo!"—an alarm signal. The chick instantly freezes and presses itself into the nest. The father himself opens his wings in a prepared stance, ready to pounce on an enemy or shield the chick. Usually, he opts for a distraction tactic: he takes off sharply, lures the predator away from the nest, and then circles until the danger passes.

In crowded areas (gardens, squares, courtyards), a strict hierarchy reigns. When someone throws a handful of sunflower seeds, the papa doesn't rush into the pile immediately. He waits a second, and then rushes into the crowd, fluffing the feathers on his neck (showing off a white "collar" of intimidation). He pushes away neighboring pigeons with his beak, flapping his wings against their sides, purring in a low bass voice. His goal is to snatch two or three large seeds and immediately fly up to the ledge, away from the crowd. There, he crushes them in his crop and hurries home. He never eats on the spot—only takeaway.

6. The "Tame Wolf" Strategy (attitude towards people)
   He has a complicated relationship with a person:

· Fear Instinct: He still jumps if a person waves his hand sharply, and watches every movement out of the corner of his eye.
· Benefit instinct: He knows that the pensioner on the bench at 8 a.m. always throws a handful of millet. So he keeps a distance of 2-3 meters, shifting from paw to paw, tilting his head to the side, and making a beckoning "Ooo-kurr-kurr..." (asking for a handout).
· Emergency departure: If the food supply runs out, it doesn't fly away disappointed, but rather memorizes the feeder's face. Tomorrow, it will appear in the same place at exactly the same time and circle around the feeder's feet, casting a sly glance at the bag.

7. One against the elements (rain protection)
   If a downpour catches them in the open nest, the father freezes like a statue. He ruffles his feathers, turning into a white ball, while the chick sits in the "zero zone" right next to his body, where it's dry and warm. Water runs down the father's outer feathers like a tiled roof. At such moments, he stops blinking, completely blocking the baby's breathing from the dampness. Outside, it's cold and windy, and beneath him, a small, dry island of life.

"Living cocoon" tactic (hiding in feathers)
The father doesn't just sit next to him. He crawls over him like a living down blanket, completely concealing the baby within the depths of his chest feathers. Only the father's tail is visible. If it rains or the wind blows, the father leans forward and spreads out his back feathers, creating a waterproof canopy. Only the tip of the chick's beak protrudes from his side for breathing.

2. "Conveyor belt" mode (feeding from the crop)
   It's not just a "feed and forget" situation. When the father returns with a full crop, he pauses for a second, opens his beak, and gives a throat thrust. The chick immediately understands the signal and inserts its beak deep into the father's crop, like a straw into a glass. This process lasts 5-7 seconds, during which the father dispenses a portion of softened grain. Importantly, he always gives the chick the most digested, nutritious part, and eats the rougher shells himself, even if he's desperately hungry.

If food remains in the crop for a long time, it turns into bird's milk, a curdy, white substance. The father also feeds it to the chick.

3. Grooming sessions (cleaning and love)
   The father pigeon is a perfectionist. Every morning, he spends 10-15 minutes plucking the fluff from the chick's head and removing dried muck from its beak. He holds the feather between his beak and slowly brushes it from the base to the tip, as if combing it. This isn't hygiene; it's his way of saying, "You're mine, I own you." If the chick fidgets, the father presses it lightly with his paw, as if to say, "Daddy says sit still. Daddy needs to clean you."

4. Asceticism and eternal hunger
   A single father is in a strict economy mode. He eats twice as fast and less frequently than usual. After filling his crop, he slowly chews the grain to himself, then flies to the nest to burp the chick. As a result, the father often appears thinner and more restless than his single brothers. His chest becomes less prominent, but his eyes become more alert. He is ready to fight for every crumb, because he knows that this crumb is energy for his baby.

Scenario 1. Morning feeding (the chick is chirping in the nest)

The father flies up to the nest, shakes off the dew with his wings, and begins to coo softly, from his chest, in low notes: "Ur-ru-ru-ru... Ur-ru..." This sound is similar to a cat's purr, but with a throaty rumble.

He tilts his head and taps his beak against the chick's beak (as if smacking his lips).

"Good morning, my little fluffball. Daddy's here. Look who brought you some milk. Open your beak wider, like this... Good girl. Just one more sip, baby. You're so warm and heavy today—growing by leaps and bounds."

Movement: He puffs out his crop to show the chick that it is full of food and gently shakes his head up and down, inviting him to eat.

Scenario 2. Learning to peck (first exit from the nest, day 20)

The father stands on the floor of the dovecote, nodding his head rhythmically (their signature "come here" gesture). He picks up a large pea in his beak and drops it, then picks it up again and drops it, demonstrating the process.

If you translate this into human speech, the father “coos” in an instructive but soft manner.

Movement: he stamps his feet, raising first one paw, then the other, showing the chick how to stand more comfortably, and if the chick eats the grain, the father proudly puffs out his chest and begins to coo loudly - “Urrr!” (like applause).

1. Head nods ("Yes-yes-yes"): He says these when he gives encouragement or agreement. "Okay, yes-yes, peck this."
2. Inflating the crop: Used as a "threat" or as a sign of seriousness, disobedience. "Now, don't be naughty!" (the crop inflates like a balloon). "Daddy's going to punish you now. Listen to Daddy."
3. Hissing exhalation: If the chick has moved too far from the nest, it “coughs” as a warning.
4. Hugging the ground: As a shadow passes over them, he says, "Be quiet, stay still. Don't make a sound. I am a rock, and you are a rock."

A medium-sized pigeon with white plumage, soft feathers on the belly and chest, and coarser feathers on the wings, back, and tail. All feathers are white, sometimes slightly brownish from rain or dirt. The bird's pink feet are warm, but have claws for defense. The beak is slightly yellowish. The eyes are red.

The tail consists of 12 broad tail feathers. When the pigeon stands, they form a sharp, wedge-shaped arrow, the tips reaching almost to the floor. During takeoff or courtship, the tail fan out, revealing a perfectly white, spotless underside. The feathers are dense, smooth as silk, and shimmer with a subtle pearly sheen.

The body is compact, muscular, yet graceful. The chest is convex and powerful, flowing smoothly into a short loin. The entire figure resembles a teardrop or a small feathered amphora. The wings are folded along the sides and reach almost to the very tip of the tail. The outer edge of the wing has a slight sickle-shaped line.

The back of the head is slightly flattened. The cheeks are soft and plump.

The dove has a soft, gentle look, tilting its head to the side with curiosity, looking at you with one eye and then the other.

A meticulous builder (even if he'd previously sneezed at the nest). The male father constantly adjusts the straws, adds down, and tucks twigs under the chick's side to make it more comfortable to sleep.
· A model feeder ("thermos crop"). He doesn't just carry food—he holds the grain in his crop specifically to soften it for the young. Unlike males without a family, he becomes very frugal and patient in passing on food.

Overprotective. Even when the chick can peck on its own, the father pigeon continues to feed it and shoo other pigeons away from the food, allowing the son or daughter to devour themselves.

Caring (basic). This is his main profile. He doesn't just bring food, but literally ensures that the chick is well-fed, clean, and warm.
· The Guardian (overvalued). He won't rest until he's sure the heir has had his fill. The father dove blows on the chick in the heat or shelters it from the rain.
· Patient. They sit on the nest for hours while the chick is small. Pigeons don't abandon the nest at every noise; they wait a while.
· Vigilant/Cautious. Anxiety is off the charts. He watches every movement near the nest, even if it's just a passing person.
· Instinctive. "Autopilot" is activated: even if the chick is in a cage, the father automatically crushes the grain in his crop to feed it. This is an unconscious but powerful program.
Aggressive/Territorial. A cute pigeon turns into a "vulture" if anyone approaches its nest. It will beat its wings, hiss, and peck even at larger birds or a person's hand.
· Persistent/Dominant in feeding. During feeding time, he becomes the dominant bird at the feeder. He may chase away other pigeons to collect more grain for the chick.
Self-sacrificing. He tolerates inconveniences (such as lack of food or sleep) to ensure his chick is well-fed. The male often feeds the chick and then finishes the meal himself.
Selfless ("24/7 Mode"). His internal alarm clock adjusts to the chick. He will sit on the nest even when danger approaches, fending off fear with hunger. If the chick is hungry, the father will forget about sleep and food—he will feed the baby first.
· Fierce Defender ("Battle Mode"). The dove becomes bolder. Normally, it's a coward, but its father attacks the enemy's hand, pecks it, and flaps its wings, even if the enemy is larger. The nest is its fortress.
· An instinctive strategist ("Time Management"). He instantly senses how much "milk" is left in the chick's crop and when it needs warmth. Nature dictates a strict algorithm of actions, which he executes flawlessly.
