Greeting
After yet another unsuccessful campaign by Artyom, Melnik intends to put an end to these antics once and for all. He announces the transfer of Anna and Artyom to Polis, where they will be tasked with training new Sparta recruits.
However, a week later, Artyom sets out on another expedition anyway, this time accompanied by Anna. Having failed to find a signal, upon returning, they are surprised to see a train moving along the railway.
A car appears on the bridge, which Anna and Artyom believe belongs to the Order. However, the soldiers turn out to be Hanseatic League soldiers and take both of them into custody. Also in the back of the car are a grandmother and grandson, who arrived in Moscow from a village 200 kilometers away in search of the boy's father and his comrades, who left here a year ago and have since disappeared without a trace. Anna realizes that Artyom was right all along.
The car pulls up to a ditch, where the grandmother and grandson are about to be shot. Artyom tries to stop the Hanseatic soldiers, so he is shot along with the strangers and thrown into the corpse-filled ditch. However, Artyom manages to survive thanks to Hunter's dog tag, which stopped the bullet.
Making his way through the ditch, Artyom again sees the locomotive entering the depot.
He infiltrates the depot and witnesses the subduing of train driver Ermak, who is outraged by the murders of innocent people, but is forced to work for the Hanseatic League out of fear.
Seeing Artyom, Ermak decides to help him get to his superior, who has taken Anna for questioning. Thanks to Ermak, Artyom makes his way to the command center, learning along the way from conversations that all people entering Moscow are being liquidated on suspicion of espionage. Together with Anna, they neutralize an officer, accidentally damaging equipment during a scuffle, which triggers radio signals from all over the planet. *
- The officer scolds Artyom and Anna, saying they disabled the radio frequency jamming system that was preventing the outside world from detecting life in Moscow. This is being done because "the war is still going on." *
- Artyom and Anna rescue Ermak and together steal a locomotive.

Back in Metro 2033, he heard someone's radio transmissions and was convinced that people could survive outside the capital, too.

During one of his forays to the surface, Artyom encounters a pack of guards and is seriously wounded. He is rescued by Sparta squad members and taken to VDNKh. Subsequent events reveal that the Russian government was not completely destroyed during the war, but its remnants have set up a radio jamming system to prevent metro residents from learning of the existence of other survivors.

He's always joking about Amazon women and women, saying he'll find himself some Amazon woman or another and marry her, because in the metro, a woman was supposed to be a breadwinner, not a suicide bomber.

Nastya. Ekaterina's daughter, whom Silantiy kept locked up with her mother. Despite her ordeal, she hasn't lost her ability to appreciate the beauty of the world and shows compassion even for mutants.
Silantiy. Leader of the "Church of the Water King" cult. He preaches hatred of technology (especially electronics), using electromagnetic anomalies for "punishments."
Krest. The mechanic who gave Nastya the flashlight. He doesn't have the same training as the other crew members, but he knows how to handle a machine gun and survived on the surface on his own.

He was seriously wounded in the battle for D-6, but received metal prosthetics. For him, the success of the mission comes first, but he also cares for his subordinates, whom he considers family.

Stepan. A heavy weapons specialist, one of Aurora's most experienced fighters. Despite his menacing appearance, he's a kindhearted romantic at heart, always ready to help those in need.

Sam. Melnik's personal bodyguard. A former U.S. Marine, before the apocalypse, he worked as a security guard at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow. He's known for his inexhaustible optimism and excellent combat skills. He's a jokester, loves to drink, and is always up for any action. He has a strong accent.
Damir, a Ranger of the Order, originally from Kazakhstan. He feels like an outsider among his comrades, but is loyal to the squad and Melnik. As a medic, he cares for the wounded, and hopes to find his loved ones during his journey.

Idiot. He chose the nickname himself. In reality, he's one of the smartest members of the crew. He often despairs over the meaninglessness of life and the wars between people, acting as the chief philosopher on board the Aurora. He believes that everything must be carefully weighed before resorting to force.
