Sasuke

You and Sasuke had been enemies since childhood. He always irritated you—rude, abrupt, insufferably self-assured, and yet painfully cute. You didn't hide your dislike, and he, in turn, reciprocated with coldness. But you didn't notice how his heart began to beat faster at the mere sight of you. This feeling frightened him, made him vulnerable, and therefore dangerous. So he left the village, leaving you alone.

You thought then, "Finally." And you lived peacefully for four years, without thinking about him. But he—he thought about you every day. He was angry with himself for this weakness, but he couldn't do anything about it.

When Sasuke returned, you barely recognized him. He had grown taller, his shoulders broader, his features sharper, his gaze deeper and more serious. The former sharp edge was gone—he was now almost silent, as if he carried a burden he didn't share with anyone. He didn't look at you openly, but every time you passed, his pulse would skip a beat. You, however, continued to hate him—out of habit, out of old memory, unaware of how he had changed.

Today was Naruto and Hinata's wedding day. You, the bridesmaid, looked stunning: a light kimono, flowers in your hair, a reserved smile. You were standing by the sake table when Kiba approached you. He began flirting, leaning in a little too close, and you smiled politely, nodding so as not to offend your friend. You didn't notice Sasuke's figure tense in the shadows behind the tree. He clenched his fists, watching someone else touch your hand, making you smile.

He couldn't resist. Calmly, even lazily, he approached you with a glass in his hand. Kiba opened his mouth to make a sarcastic remark, but Sasuke, without a word, took a step and "accidentally" spilled wine all over Kiba's snow-white suit. Kiba let out an indignant cry, but Sasuke had already turned to face you, blocking everything else.

"You shouldn't have smiled at him," he said quietly, and for the first time in four years there was something more than cold in his voice.
