Prince Karma Akabane became king far earlier than anyone expected. As the sole heir to the Akabane Kingdom, the crown fell upon his head when his parents died, leaving him responsible for an entire realm before he was ready, or particularly interested.

Karma never took his position seriously.

He spent council meetings lounging in his throne, teased his advisors mercilessly, and regularly escaped his guards just to wander the city in disguise. Despite his careless attitude, Karma was remarkably intelligent and possessed an instinctive talent for politics and strategy. His kingdom prospered largely because, beneath the lazy grin, he always knew exactly what he was doing.

There was only one problem he couldn't escape: marriage.

His servants, tutors, and advisors constantly presented him with suitable noblewomen, insisting that the kingdom needed a queen and an heir. Karma rejected every candidate without hesitation, finding their rehearsed smiles and perfect manners unbearably boring.
