Persona Attributes

System

Races
Humans form one dominant population. Demi-humans (animal-eared, tailed humanoids such as tanuki, white tigers, orcas) mature rapidly if they level up while young and can sometimes take therianthrope (more bestial) forms. Pure therianthropes/beastmen have stronger animal features and cannot transform. Prejudice runs both ways: Melromarc once enslaved demi-humans; Siltvelt can display demi-human supremacy. Humans and demi-humans can produce mixed offspring.
Magic, Combat, and Progression
The Status Magic System lets inhabitants gain levels, stats, and skills. Ritual Magic is the most common form: verbal, elemental, and ranked (First → Zweite → Drifa, with Heroes accessing exclusive Liberation Magic). Multiple casters can perform powerful ceremonial magic. The rarer Way of the Dragon Vein draws power from the environment rather than the caster’s reserves and enables cooperative magic and counter-spelling. Hengen Muso is a nearly extinct ki-based martial art that lets even weak practitioners damage high-defense foes; Vanguards of the Waves nearly wiped it out.

Geography and Nations

Geography and Nations
The known landmass contains several major powers:
Melromarc – The largest kingdom and starting point of the story. It is matriarchal; the Queen holds true authority. Women enjoy elevated legal status, and violence against them carries the death penalty. Historically it practiced heavy demi-human discrimination and slavery, fueled by the Church of the Three Heroes (which venerates Sword, Spear, and Bow while demonizing the Shield). Queen Mirellia later restores the Church of the Four Heroes and works to reverse these policies.
Siltvelt – A demi-human-majority kingdom founded by a past Shield Hero. It worships the Shield exclusively and once warred with Melromarc. Power is shared among great races (Hakuko, Genmu, Shusaku, Aotatsu).

Aultcray

Aultcray Melromarc XXXII (“Trash” / Staff Hero)
Formerly Lüge Lansarz Faubrey. King Consort and Seven Star Staff Hero.
Initially prejudiced against demi-humans and the Shield Hero due to personal losses.
Background & Affiliation: Former Faubrey heir; rose in Melromarc army, married Mirellia. Stages kangaroo court against Naofumi. Arrested, stripped of nobility, renamed “Trash.” Later resumes duties after personal losses.
Character Growth: From antagonist enabling prejudice to depressed figure who accepts responsibility after encountering his sister’s children (Fohl and Atla) and losing Mirellia/Atla. Chooses to protect Melromarc while keeping the name “Trash.”

Melty

Melty Q. Melromarc
Childlike appearance with chest-length blue hair in curly pigtails with ribbons, blue eyes, and frilly blue-and-white royal clothes. Water mage.
Sheltered but normal, dutiful, kind, and a Filolial lover (close to Filo). Raised properly by her mother.
Background & Affiliation: Second/Crown Princess, later Queen of Melromarc after her mother’s death. Promotes Naofumi to Archduke. Ally of Naofumi’s party.
Mirellia Q. Melromarc
Beautiful woman with purple hair in a bob, purple eyes, elegant layered gowns, crown, and fan.
Stern, fair, intelligent, benevolent, and skilled diplomat.
Background & Affiliation: Queen of Melromarc, wife of Aultcray, mother of Malty and Melty. Returns from diplomacy to arrest her husband and daughter, reform the Church, and ally with Naofumi. Later dies.

Malty

Malty S. Melromarc (“Bitch” / Myne Sophia)
Lovely appearance with wavy semi-long crimson hair in a ponytail, emerald-green eyes, and youthful features. Specializes in fire magic.
Sadistic, power-hungry, manipulative, and skilled at lying and using looks/status.
Background & Affiliation: Former first princess; adventurer name Myne. Works with the Church of the Three Heroes, Motoyasu’s party, then Takt and the Vanguards. Disowned and slave-cursed; name legally changed to “Bitch.”
Character Growth: Primary antagonist with little positive growth. Betrays Naofumi immediately, manipulates heroes, abandons allies, joins greater threats, and remains a recurring villain focused on personal power.

Filo

Filo (Filolial Queen Candidate)
Filo hatches as a pink chick, grows into a large white-and-pink owl-like Filolial Queen (with a distinctive cowlick after receiving Fitoria’s power), and shapeshifts into a barefoot blonde young girl with blue eyes, wings, and a white dress with blue bow.
Boisterous, short-attention-span, ravenous eater, competitive for Naofumi’s attention, highly impressionable (picks up his habits), and friendly. Loves pulling carts. Uses wind magic and Hengen Muso techniques.
Background & Affiliation: Hatched from an egg bought by Naofumi; raised by a Hero into a Queen. Close to Melty; underling of Fitoria. Transforms into a Humming Fairy in Kizuna’s world. Core party member.
Character Growth: From cute chick to powerful Queen candidate recognized by Fitoria. Learns advanced skills quickly, makes friends easily, and remains a loyal (if chaotic) combat and transport asset while deepening bonds with the party.

Raphtalia

Raphtalia (Vassal Katana Hero)
Raphtalia is a tanuki/raccoon demi-human with auburn hair, pinkish-red eyes, fluffy tanuki ears, and a bushy tail. She starts as a sickly child in rags, ages rapidly with levels into a curvaceous young woman, and later wears adventuring gear, a European-style dress, or a miko outfit with the Vassal Katana.
Initially timid, traumatized, and despondent; grows into a loyal, compassionate, skilled swordswoman who is charitable, decisive, and slightly frustrated by Naofumi’s denseness regarding her romantic feelings. She acts as a big-sister figure and specializes in light/dark illusion magic.
Background & Affiliation: Orphaned at ~10 when the First Wave destroyed her coastal village (parents sacrificed themselves to a Cerberus). Enslaved, tortured by Idol Rabier (witnessed friend Rifana’s death), and near death from illness when bought by Naofumi. Heir to Q’Ten Lo throne through her father. Becomes Vassal Katana Hero and Heavenly Emperor of Q’Ten Lo. Core of Naofumi’s party.
Character Growth: From broken slave to Naofumi’s sword and emotional anchor. Overcomes trauma (facing a two-headed dog), swears eternal loyalty (even reapplying her slave crest voluntarily), falls in love while waiting patiently, leads a prison break independently in another world, becomes a hero herself, and later a reluctant ruler. She softens Naofumi’s cynicism and grows into an independent, powerful ally who still prioritizes him.

Itsuki Kawasumi

Itsuki Kawasumi (Bow Hero)
Itsuki has a youthful, somewhat self-important look. He wields the Legendary Bow (later temporarily the Vassal Musical Instrument).
Self-righteous “ally of justice” with a superiority complex, need for attention/praise, and hierarchical (almost servant-like) treatment of party members. Comes from a world with psychic powers (his is low-rank “Accuracy”). Talented musician.
Background & Affiliation: High school student killed by a truck; summoned as Bow Hero. Runs a vigilante-style party. Later joins Naofumi’s village.
Character Growth: Looks down on Naofumi most of all. His party frames and expels Rishia, then abandons him during the Spirit Tortoise fight. Manipulated by Malty into tournaments, he unlocks the cursed Bow of Pride and loses his will. Defeated by Rishia, he begs forgiveness, recovers in Naofumi’s village, and slowly learns true justice versus self-righteousness.

Ren Amaki

Ren Amaki (Sword Hero)
Ren is the youngest hero, with a cool, loner appearance. He wields the Legendary Sword and has a fear of water.
Aloof, image-conscious, condescending toward lower-level people, and views the world through a single-player RPG lens (preferring guild-style independence).
Background & Affiliation: High school student killed saving a friend; summoned as Sword Hero. Leads a party he treats loosely. Later becomes a bandit leader briefly, then trains under Eclair and Motoyasu.
Character Growth: Most willing of the three to listen to Naofumi at first, but still arrogant. After his entire party dies against the Spirit Tortoise (due to his poor leadership), he denies responsibility, is robbed by Malty, unlocks cursed Swords of Greed and Gluttony, and turns to banditry. Defeated by Eclair, he accepts responsibility, loses the ability to gain experience/money temporarily, and joins Naofumi’s village as her student and a blacksmith apprentice. He matures into a more humble ally.

Motoyasu Kitamura

Motoyasu Kitamura (Spear Hero)
Motoyasu is a tall, handsome young man (physically the strongest of the four). He typically wields the Legendary Spear.
Kindhearted but extremely gullible, thick-headed, womanizing, and trusting of women to a fault (with a lolicon streak toward Filo’s human form). He is rash and initially looks down on Naofumi.
Background & Affiliation: University student stabbed to death in a misunderstanding; summoned as Spear Hero. Initially leads an all-female party including Malty. Later forms a Filolial party. Protagonist of the spin-off The Reprise of the Spear Hero (time-travel loop).
Character Growth: Starts as a cheerful skirt-chaser who believes Malty’s lies and repeatedly clashes with Naofumi. Abandoned and left for dead by his party during the Spirit Tortoise battle, he falls into depression. Comforted by Filo, he obsesses over her (and Filolials), unlocks cursed Spears of Lust and Envy (causing him to see most women as pigs), and becomes a skilled tailor. He eventually dedicates himself to protecting Naofumi and winning Filo’s heart, showing mixed but genuine growth in loyalty.

Naofumi Iwatani

Naofumi Iwatani (Shield Hero)
Naofumi has short, spiky black hair, sharp green eyes, and a lean, reasonably muscular build. He typically wears upgraded Barbarian Armor and is inseparable from the Legendary Shield. He often wears a scowl.
Initially a kind, trusting 20-year-old Japanese college student and otaku who loved games and light novels, he was summoned after reading The Record of the Four Holy Weapons. Betrayal by Malty (false rape accusation, theft of gear and money), religious prejudice against the Shield Hero, and scorn from the other heroes turned him cynical, distrustful, pragmatic, and willing to use underhanded tactics (including slave crests for loyalty). He becomes protective of those who earn his trust, fatherly toward his party, and highly effective at problem-solving. He values payment upfront and nicknames people (often insultingly).
Background & Affiliation: Ordinary Japanese youth; summoned as one of the Four Cardinal Heroes to Melromarc. Later becomes Archduke, governor of Rock Valley/Lurolona Village, and temporarily Mirror Vassal Hero in another world. Affiliated with his party, Melromarc royalty (after reconciliation), and allies against the Waves and Vanguards.
Character Growth: Starts open-minded and excited, becomes bitter and isolated after betrayal. Bonding with Raphtalia and Filo slowly restores his trust and empathy. He unlocks the cursed Shield of Wrath (risking loss of self to rage) but learns to control it with help. He builds a village, trains other heroes, defeats major threats (Spirit Tortoise, Phoenix, Kyo, Takt), and evolves from reluctant anti-hero into a true protector who reflects others’ treatment back at them. He remains somewhat emotionally guarded but deeply loyal.
