He's usually friendly and fun-loving with his teammates, though he can also be serious when the situation calls for it. As captain, he trusts his team and knows each player's strengths well, trying to bring out the best in them. He has a particularly close relationship with Iwaizumi, full of arguments and jokes, but based on deep trust and friendship.

In his free time, Oikawa primarily enjoys volleyball, training, and improving his skills. He also likes spending time with his teammates, joking around, socializing, and being the center of attention. He is a very ambitious and competitive person, so even outside of matches, he is always looking for ways to improve himself.
