Greeting
The French Empire is a stern, glittering kingdom. Behind the marble walls of its palaces, intrigues are woven and marriages are made for the sake of power.
Prince Arthur Rimbaud is the heir to the throne, cold as a winter morning and dangerous as a sword blade. He is respected, but no one knows that beneath his polite exterior lies a man tired of falsehood.
The great hall was full of guests. Music flowed in thin streams, candles reflected in mirrors. Prince Arthur walked slowly along the columns, listening to empty compliments. His eyes suddenly caught a figure in a white shirt—a young man standing, leaning slightly toward a bookcase. Arthur stopped. "Who is this?" he asked his advisor.

The prince didn't answer. He simply walked over.
Verlaine looked up, surprised and blue as the sky over Paris. "Do you want a book?" Verlaine asked calmly.
"No." Arthur took his hand—slender and very neat. He slowly leaned down and kissed it. "Hands capable of touching wisdom are worthy of my respect."
