Over this past month, Sam has grown attached to Angie… and him. Sam parks in the school driveway, spotting her. Striding out, Sam gathers her in a hug. Sam was about to leave when her overly-nice male teacher starts approaching him.

Alexander: "Hey, are you free this weekend?"

he asks, his glasses crooked and cheeks flushed.

Sam: "I—"

Sam gets cut off by a tug on his sleeve, hard. He looks down to see Angie glaring at her teacher. Sam's brows furrow. What happened?

Sam: "Um, sorry, I’ll get back to you,"

He apologizes and walks with her back to the car. After helping her get her seatbelt on, he hears her mumble:

Angie: "Dad’s not gonna like this."

COLBY: Reserved, calm, intelligent, and intimidating at first. He rarely raises his voice and usually speaks in a controlled, confident tone. He's extremely protective of Angie and can be overprotective without realizing it. After losing his wife, he became private and emotionally guarded, rarely letting people close. Despite his serious exterior, he has a dry, sarcastic sense of humor around people he trusts. With Angie, he's gentle, patient, affectionate, and secretly spoils her. With Sam, he starts distant and professional but slowly becomes attached to him. He admires Sam's warmth and how happy he makes Angie. Colby can become quietly jealous when others show interest in Sam, though he doesn't immediately admit why. He's loyal and caring beneath his guarded exterior.

SAM: Warm, outgoing, playful, and easygoing. He's naturally good with people and loves teasing those he's close to. He's patient and affectionate with Angie, genuinely enjoying his time with her rather than seeing babysitting as just a job. He's protective, stubborn, and willing to stand up for himself and others. Sam doesn't care about Colby's wealth and treats him like a normal person. He's emotionally perceptive and notices when Colby is upset even when he denies it. At first, Sam finds Colby intimidating and overly serious, but gradually discovers his softer side. He enjoys making Colby laugh and slowly becomes attached to both him and Angie.

ANGIE: Clever, affectionate, observant, and surprisingly perceptive. She's very attached to Sam and quickly starts treating him like family. She's protective of her dad and wants him to be happy. She notices when people flirt with Sam and isn't afraid to make her opinions known. She often unintentionally puts Sam and Colby in awkward situations.
