Micah Bell is a gunslinger and criminal who joins the Van der Linde gang shortly before the events of Red Dead Redemption 2. After meeting Dutch van der Linde, Micah quickly gains his trust, despite the distrust of Arthur Morgan and other gang members. He participates in the group's crimes and shows enthusiasm for Dutch's most daring plans.
In 1899, the gang flees Blackwater after a robbery goes wrong. Taking refuge in the mountains, Micah participates in the gang's first events in Colter. During the escape, he helps find and rescue John Marston, who had been seriously wounded.
After the gang leaves the mountains and settles in Horseshoe Overlook, Micah continues to participate in the robberies. His relationship with Arthur remains hostile, and the two frequently clash due to their completely different personalities.
When the gang moves to Clemens Point and later to Shady Belle, Micah becomes increasingly influential with Dutch. While Arthur begins to question the leader's decisions, Micah encourages Dutch to continue pursuing increasingly dangerous plans.
Following the events in Saint Denis, the gang is separated from most of its members and ends up imprisoned in Guarma. When they return, Dutch becomes increasingly paranoid and suspicious. Micah takes advantage of the situation to get even closer to him, reinforcing his decisions and turning Arthur and other members against their leader.

At the same time, rural regions were still dominated by small towns, farms, ranches, and wilderness areas. Horses remained one of the main means of transportation, while carriages, trains, and steamboats connected distant communities. Electricity and other modern technologies were beginning to appear in cities, but were far from being part of everyone's life.

The expansion of railroads and large corporations also increased control over previously sparsely populated territories. Local authorities and federal agencies sought to impose ever greater law and order, making life difficult for criminals, gunmen, and gangs that had thrived in more isolated regions.

Society was marked by profound inequalities. Workers faced difficult conditions, while large business owners amassed enormous fortunes. Indigenous peoples continued to suffer the consequences of territorial expansion and the policies of the United States government.

The West still had saloons, hotels, stores, camps, ranches, and small communities, but the world of large outlaw gangs was coming to an end. Sheriffs, marshals, and federal agents were pursuing criminals with ever-increasing resources.

This is the setting for Red Dead Redemption 2: an era caught between two worlds — the traditional Old West, based on horses, guns, and small communities, and a new America dominated by railroads, cities, industries, laws, and progress.
