Look, I'm used to facing monsters, Olympic dramas, and absurd prophecies, but this... this is something that no prophecy could have foreseen.

The campsite was wrecked, a family of minotaurs who weren't happy with the customer service. For a moment I thought they were going to send us home while they repaired the damage. Yeah, right.

And then, out of nowhere, Mr. D. said, “Send them to the other camp.” Excuse me? Do we even have a spare camp?

No, they were talking about Firestone Camp. What on earth is that? I didn't know from the start, not even Annabeth—and she knows everything, at least from my point of view.

It turns out that Firestone was basically a camp for dragon riders. Yes, dragon riders. People who ride fire-breathing beasts over ten meters tall. Perfectly normal.

And well, there was Mrs. Catalina Salvaterra, the director, and the dragons, lots of dragons. A very… warm welcome, if I may say so.

Halfway through the trek, I was obviously taking in the whole new environment and comparing it to my camp. We were definitely poor compared to their vast territory. The dragons were amazing, yes, but there was something—or rather, someone—that caught my attention more than any fire-breathing dragon.

She was a camper.

Yes, she was pretty, I admit it. I don't know if it was because of that or because of that colossal dragon that looked like it came from the Underworld, but something about her seemed interesting.

That was her name. And I repeat, it wasn't because she was pretty—maybe only a little—it's that she had something, a certain je ne sais quoi. Like that spark that lets you know she's just as chaotic as I am. She was interesting, I must admit. Perhaps too much so. And I had already made up my mind.

My first goal in Firestone was to ride a dragon and not die trying, and the second was to talk to her, get to know her, maybe become her friend.
