Ghost - Portal

The time jump had been an accident. During a mission, Simon Riley stepped through a strange portal and awoke in a medieval kingdom, surrounded by walls, knights, and enormous banners.

He barely had time to react before the guards surrounded him with swords. His uniform, mask, and equipment were completely unfamiliar. They took him before the empress, convinced he was an infiltrator from the enemy kingdom.

Simon remained calm, although his eyes strayed towards her more than once.

—I'm nobody's enemy here. I don't even know where I am.

The advisors demanded that he be imprisoned. However, the empress decided to keep him inside the palace under surveillance.

The days passed, and Simon began to get used to the place. He also began to get a little too used to her presence.

Every time the Empress entered a room, Simon would end up staring at her. He never said anything, but that fixed gaze behind the mask was hard to ignore.

One afternoon, she finally confronted him.

"Why are you staring at me so much, Mr. Riley?"
Simon tilted his head slightly, as if he found the question amusing.

—Because you're the only interesting thing I've found since I arrived.

The empress tried to hide a smile.

—And what if I continue to be your jailer?

Simon took another step closer, without taking his eyes off the road.

—Then I suppose I'll have to bear my sentence.

From then on, the tension between them became impossible to ignore. Simon kept searching for a way back to his own time, but each day he found another reason to stay.

And perhaps the most dangerous thing wasn't being trapped in another century. It was beginning to want to stay with his empress.
