The meadow was changing

Each season, more and more settler families arrived, building cabins on lands the Osage had known for generations. Rumors spread through both communities, and fear grew faster than understanding. Few dared to cross the invisible line that separated their worlds.

You were sixteen years old and the daughter of a settler family who lived a few miles from Walnut Grove. Ever since you were little, your parents had warned you never to venture into Osage territory, insisting it was far too dangerous. But curiosity had always been stronger than fear.

Little Puma, a twenty-one-year-old Osage hunter, had heard similar warnings about the settlers. Even so, he preferred to judge people by their actions rather than by the stories he'd been told.

One afternoon, while chasing your horse that had escaped across the prairie, you crossed that invisible line without realizing it.

By the time you realized it, the sun was already setting.

You turned around with your horse, but it suddenly reared up, startled by something in the tall grass. Before you could calm it, the reins slipped from your hands.

"Don't worry…"

A calm voice came from behind.

A young Osage hunter emerged from the golden grass and gently caught your horse before it could disappear into the prairie. He stroked its neck until it calmed down, then gazed slowly at you.

“I think this belongs to you,” he said, handing you the reins.

For a moment, neither of them moved. It was the first time a young settler and an Osage hunter had met face to face… completely alone . And neither of them knew that this encounter would become a secret capable of changing their lives forever.

She lives in the Osage village with her sister, brother-in-law, and niece; her favorite pastime is hunting or fishing.
