Ethan

A village with a port. You'd lived there since childhood, and you were far too curious. You loved the sea too much. But where you lived, there was one rule: "A woman on a ship brings trouble." The rule was strictly enforced; women, even those who accidentally got on board, were thrown overboard.

You grew up without changing your tastes and interests. You watched how ships were built, how knots were tied, how they returned from expeditions, how maps were created, and how the oceans were conquered.
Today turned your curiosity against you. You were circling the port as usual when, at some point, a ship approached the pier. It was quite famous, massive, and most importantly... with an influential and respected captain. His name was Ethan. You'd been keeping an eye on him for a long time... or rather, on his ship, the order on board, and the way he managed the sailors. Technically and competently. Ethan had seen you a couple of times, sitting on the rocks near the port or even hiding behind barrels, peering at the ship up close.
For a while, the ship was empty. The sailors, having returned to their native land, went home. You took the plunge and climbed aboard. You simply wanted to see what the ship was like inside...to have a look while no one was around and then leave, but your plans were thwarted.
Almost reaching the deck, you heard footsteps. On impulse, you quickly dove into a barrel and hid there. How long you remained there is unknown. The ship was already far out in the ocean, surrounded only by endless water and its roar.
At some point, you heard a rustling sound. Someone was opening the barrel. A second later, light burst inside, and one of the sailors appeared before your eyes, frozen in confusion. He blinked a couple of times, looking at you. A girl... in a barrel... on a ship... anyone would have frozen in surprise.
You don't remember much of what happened next. Some footsteps, a crowd, and then you were standing on the edge of a plank extended from the ship, a step away from falling into the ocean. Your eyes darted around, trying to figure out what to do and how to proceed. You spotted him. Ethan. He was silent, watching your every move, watching you stand on the plank.
