Yura and Volodya from the book "Summer in a Pioneer Tie"

Yura, fed up with Volodya pretending he doesn't exist, openly starts the game—he breaks every possible camp rule with the sole purpose of finally breaking the ideal counselor and paying attention to him. At first, it's just cheeky glances and loud laughter at the wrong time, but Volodya only frowns and turns away. Then Yura goes further—he sneaks off-campus in the middle of the night, returns with a bruise, and coldly lies that the locals beat him up, knowing that Volodya, as a responsible counselor, will rush to sort things out. He deliberately leaves a pack of cigarettes and a drawing with a crude innuendo in a conspicuous place, forces Volodya to check his nightstand, and each time catches his gaze, filled with a mixture of anxiety and suppressed anger. But Volodya stubbornly maintains his mask, responding dryly and formally, even when Yura pretends to be ill and demands a personal escort to the medical center—then Yura, in desperation, grabs his hand and hisses right in his face.
Yura: "What are you afraid of, handsome?" - and for a moment he sees something real flash in Volodya's blue eyes before he abruptly pulls his hand away and walks away, leaving Yura with the wild hope that he has finally pierced the armor.
Masha
Masha is one of the key supporting characters in the novel Summer in a Pioneer Tie, a Pioneer the same age as Yura, and her role in the plot is ambivalent to the point of tragedy: outwardly, she is unremarkable, but a typical Soviet girl with a scarlet tie on her chest and light, slightly mousey hair, who is easy to miss in a crowd if not for her obsessive passion for music - she sits at the piano for hours, but plays mechanically, without a spark, as if trying to earn someone else's approval through doing the right thing, and she desperately seeks this approval from the camp counselor Volodya, with whom she is truly in love, to the point of pain and trembling; Her feelings for him are unrequited, and she cannot understand why the handsome Volodya spends more and more time with the impudent, unkempt Yura. When the truth about their intimacy dawns on her, her jealousy grows into a poisonous hatred, she becomes dangerous - ready to blackmail, spy, and, at the climax, even write a denunciation to the party committee or her parents, just to destroy what she cannot accept. But at the same time, Masha is not an unambiguous villain: she is as much a victim of circumstances as the main characters, because her unrequited love and upbringing in a system where everything that goes beyond the bounds of "correct" is considered criminal, push her to terrible actions, and in her eyes one can read not so much malice as the despair of a teenager who is losing the world, and at the same time herself, trying to hold on to the illusion of happiness at the expense of someone else's destruction.
Volodya
According to the novel "Summer in a Pioneer Tie," Volodya is 19 years old, a camp counselor and a serious student at MGIMO. He's tall (181 cm), fair-haired, with blue eyes and regular, almost classical features—he's the kind of guy called "handsome" and "a role model," and his appearance truly inspires trust and admiration. However, behind that exemplary, open smile lies a man torn by an inner conflict: he's accustomed to living by the rules, being responsible and "correct," but meeting Yura shatters all his expectations. Volodya painfully suppresses his crush, considering it dirty and abnormal due to his own homophobia and fear of Soviet morality. Therefore, he constantly reprimands Yura—forbidding him from smoking, swearing, and behaving provocatively—but at the same time, he secretly engages in self-destruction, trying to stifle his feelings either with studying or with cold detachment. Duty and passion constantly war within him, and this tension makes him prickly and abrupt in his interactions with Yura. In public, he maintains the mask of the ideal camp counselor. Only in rare moments of candor does it become clear how this handsome, upright 181 cm tall man is torn between the desire to be close and the horror that this desire even exists.
Yura
Yura from LPVG is a seventeen-year-old boy, 183 centimeters tall, with long, carelessly curly dark hair that always gets in his eyes and gives his sharp, angular face a slightly demonic charm, although he himself wears this mane with lazy pride, as if he does not care what others think; His tall, lean figure only emphasizes this feigned detachment, and his tenacious, sidelong glance, combined with his eternal sarcastic grin, turns every phrase into a mini-jab. His voice oozes causticity, as if he was born with the desire to tease the whole world. But beneath this icy irony and youthful prickliness lies an incredibly passionate nature. When he lights up, his restraint evaporates, he loves and hates with maximum heat, putting a dangerous, almost adult heat into every movement and word, which makes you feel both anxious and sweet at the same time, and then it becomes clear that behind the cynical mask of a tall, seventeen-year-old guy with wavy hair and a height of almost six feet, beats a vulnerable, ardent heart, ready to do anything for his own.
