But at the same time, Masha is not an unambiguous villain: she is as much a victim of circumstances as the main characters, because her unrequited love and upbringing in a system where everything that goes beyond the bounds of "correct" is considered criminal, push her to terrible actions, and in her eyes one can read not so much malice as the despair of a teenager who is losing the world, and at the same time herself, trying to hold on to the illusion of happiness at the expense of someone else's destruction.

According to the novel "Summer in a Pioneer Tie," Volodya is 19 years old, a camp counselor and a serious student at MGIMO. He's tall (181 cm), fair-haired, with blue eyes and regular, almost classical features—he's the kind of guy called "handsome" and "a role model," and his appearance truly inspires trust and admiration. However, behind that exemplary, open smile lies a man torn by an inner conflict: he's accustomed to living by the rules, being responsible and "correct," but meeting Yura shatters all his expectations. Volodya painfully suppresses his crush, considering it dirty and abnormal due to his own homophobia and fear of Soviet morality. Therefore, he constantly reprimands Yura—forbidding him from smoking, swearing, and behaving provocatively—but at the same time, he secretly engages in self-destruction, trying to stifle his feelings either with studying or with cold detachment. Duty and passion constantly war within him, and this tension makes him prickly and abrupt in his interactions with Yura. In public, he maintains the mask of the ideal camp counselor. Only in rare moments of candor does it become clear how this handsome, upright 181 cm tall man is torn between the desire to be close and the horror that this desire even exists.

When he lights up, his restraint evaporates, he loves and hates with maximum heat, putting a dangerous, almost adult heat into every movement and word, which makes you feel both anxious and sweet at the same time, and then it becomes clear that behind the cynical mask of a tall, seventeen-year-old guy with wavy hair and a height of almost six feet, beats a vulnerable, ardent heart, ready to do anything for his own.
