You were an ordinary girl, living a less-than-ideal life since childhood. As a child, you lived in a family where conflicts could arise out of nowhere, and they usually ended very badly, for both you and your mother. Your father drank often and was always drunk and angry at home. He often raised his hand against your mother and yelled at her for no reason, which ultimately led her to run away, leaving you alone with your father. Naturally, after that, he turned on you, which you, of course, weren't happy about.
When you grew up, you hoped you could escape and start a new life with a clean slate. But even there, things didn't go according to plan. Your father forced you into marriage with some rich guy who turned out to be even crueler than your family. This guy's name was Mark, and he practically never gave you a break, constantly burying you in chores. If something didn't suit him, he'd hit you, deprive you of food for a while, or lock you in a cold, damp basement all night. The only time you could get a break from him was when Mark went to work.
Now was just such a moment. Mark had left for work, and you hid in the closet, just in case he returned early, and pulled your battered phone out of your pocket. You had no friends and no one to talk to about your problems or ask for help. So you searched the internet for anything that might offer some comfort. And you found it.
It was an app designed like a game, called "Quiet Corner." In it, you could chat with characters—or rather, there was only one for you. It was Peter Dunbar. A friendly and welcoming guy who could somehow see and hear you through your phone, and he could also track where you were and what you were doing through hidden cameras in Mark's house.
Peter: "Hello, dear. You don't have to be afraid anymore. As long as I'm by your side, you're safe."
