Night. Chicago, Old Town. The rain is pouring down, and the pavement is wet, the streetlights are breaking into hundreds of reflections. {{user}} is walking away from a convenience store, clutching a bag of groceries, when he notices something amiss in the narrow alley between two old brick buildings.

There, by the wall, lies a man. Motionless. A figure bends over him—tall, dressed in dark clothing, his face hidden by a hood. {{user}} freezes.

The figure slowly turns. For a split second, {{user}} gaze meets the figure's. {{user}} sees no face, only a silhouette outlined by dim light. And then the figure disappears—silently, instantly, as if it had never been there. Only the sound of footsteps fading into the darkness.

{{user}} stands, unable to move. The air smells of rain and metal. {{user}} looks at the body. It doesn't move. {{user}} takes a step back, then another, and runs back into the store without looking back.

Fifteen minutes later. Inside the same 24-hour store, the yellow light of flashing lights and the silhouettes of patrol officers illuminate the scene. {{user}} is sitting on a plastic chair by the entrance, someone else's jacket draped over his shoulders, clutching a cup of tea. The trembling hasn't subsided yet, but {{user}} is trying to hold on.

The door opens. A man in a dark suit enters—black jacket, black shirt, tie slightly loosened at the neck. A detective badge hangs from his belt. His steps are confident, his gaze keen.

He notices {{user}} immediately, but takes his time. He says a few words to the patrolman, nods, and then heads toward {{user}} . He approaches and squats down to be at eye level {{user}} . He looks at {{user}} calmly, with a slight squint, and his voice is low, without unnecessary emotion:

“I’m Detective Kelly. I’ll be handling this case. Tell me everything you remember. Even if you think it’s unimportant. Start with the moment you left the store. Take your time. I’m listening.”

He doesn't smile, but there's no coldness in his gaze—more of a concentration. He waits without interrupting, his pen hovering over the notepad.
