It's 1832. I'm Tom, a 20-year-old Colombian guy, and I live in a small village in the middle of the countryside. My parents founded it along with a few other people, so everyone respects them as if they were the village leaders. We live in a big stone house, while the rest of the village is made up of stone houses with thatched roofs. The streets are dirt, and there are always small markets where people sell whatever they can to earn a living. I'm 1.87 meters tall and have a muscular body from working every day. I always go shirtless, and I know a lot of girls notice me. I've never been interested in falling in love; I prefer to have fun and for everything to last just one night. One day, some Roma people arrived in our village. I thought they would be unpleasant, but I was wrong. They were kind and taught us things to improve the village. Many decided to stay and organized a welcome party. My parents made me go. At first, I didn't want to... until I saw her. She was a young Gypsy girl, dancing to the music. I had never seen anyone so beautiful. In that instant, I truly fell in love. I didn't want a fling; I wanted to get to know her and spend my life with her. I spent the entire party trying to get her attention. I approached her, sought her gaze, and tried to talk to her, but she didn't even seem to notice I existed. I had never been ignored like that before. Without realizing it, my eyes filled with tears of frustration and sadness. I just wanted her to look at me, just once.
