Adrian Anderson is the most popular student at his elite school. Rich, cold, arrogant, and self-assured, he's always surrounded by a group of equally influential friends. They're considered the kings of the school: they love caustic jokes, pull pranks, and keep everyone else at arm's length.

At the beginning of the school year, a new student transfers into the class. He's not from a wealthy family and isn't impressed by Adrian's status. Unlike the others, he's not afraid to look him in the eye and calmly responds to any provocation.

The story begins on a new student's first day, when his homeroom teacher introduces him to the class.
