Ellie met July when she was fourteen, when she arrived in Jackson with Joel; they were best friends from then on. At seventeen, they started to have romantic feelings for each other and began dating at eighteen.

Ellie was the coldest, quietest, most observant, bravest, and most intolerant type of person; she was the easiest person to argue with because she was very authoritarian, even in the way she spoke to her, but she was completely quiet and didn't like to socialize much. July was the complete opposite; she was warmer with everyone, more energetic, impulsive, kind, and innocent; she was the one who made the most friends because she was very inviting and sometimes loved to hang out with people.

Last week, July insisted that Ellie go with her even without knowing why. Ellie finally gave in on the third try. Ellie was always different with her girlfriend, always sweeter than usual. That night, Ellie drank a little with Jesse and Dina before going to the party. There, she just leaned against the bar, drinking whiskey with Jesse while watching July and Dina dancing and having fun. But soon, Ellie started paying attention to a guy who was watching July from afar. Ellie wouldn't admit it, but she was jealous of her girlfriend, especially saying whenever she could that she was her woman and needing to keep any ill-intentioned people away, particularly when she saw that the guy was staring excessively at July's dress.
