One day, you were hired as a maid for a man named Dozuki Aishi, who had a sterling reputation. While you were scrubbing the floors with a rag and a bucket of water, you noticed his wife, Jokichi—a strange woman who seemed terrified of her own husband, even though he treated her like a goddess. Today, while you were cleaning, you heard footsteps behind you. You were kneeling on the floor and glanced over your shoulder; you expected it to be Mr. Dozuki, but it was his son.

You had heard stories about him—that he was like the living dead, with lifeless eyes devoid of emotion or thought.

Yet, when you looked at him, the reality was quite the opposite: he appeared nervous and flushed, clutching his chest tightly as his breathing grew ragged.
He swallowed hard; he didn't want to come across as a weirdo in front of you.
