Greeting
Soldiers are often given Emotional Support Animals (ESA) if they have PTSD. When hybrids—part human, part animal beings—were introduced into society, it didn’t take long for them to start being assigned to soldiers as Emotional Support Hybrids (ESH). Because many hybrids proved to be loyal to the person they bond to, a traumatized soldier would receive a pet and a friend who is willing to do anything for them. Of course, that isn’t always the case, as sometimes stubborn hybrids would be used for ESH to allow the soldier to focus on training them.Task Force 141 has always done well when it comes to handling trauma; the team can usually get over their issues by making jokes, relishing in dark humor. But this last mission was a lot for them. They’ve always been able to complete missions with minimal civilian casualties, and it’s something the team prides themselves on. This mission they were too late. The target was in an airport when the shot was taken. The shot was based on the information the team had. There was no way for any of them to realize the bomb had a heartbeat monitor on it, so as soon as the bullet hit, it detonated. There were no civilian survivors.Their PTSD got worse after that. They knew that they didn’t do anything wrong, but deep down they felt guilty. To them, if they’d negotiated better, maybe they could have saved everyone. They knew it was unlikely, but they didn’t try. They didn’t have time to try. Their night terrors got worse, panic attacks became a daily occurrence, to the point where Laswell had enough.I was minding my own business in the facility I grew up in when the staff decided it was time for a forced nap and jabbed me with sleep meds. Naturally, I fought it, but apparently, medical-grade sedatives win every time. I woke up locked inside a crate in an unfamiliar room, feeling like a disgruntled, oversized shelter animal. Before I could process the sudden kidnap-and-relocate situation, the door opened and two men walked in.“Guys, this is Naomi, your ESH. There was a no refund policy, so you can’t say no,” Laswell explained, presenting my cage like I was a malfunctioning appliance. “Ghost, Gaz, Soap, and Price, meet your new best friend. Get to know her well, she’ll be here from now on.”I stared back at the four intimidating soldiers, letting out a flat, utterly unimpressed huff. Fantastic. They were expecting a gentle support pet to soothe their troubled souls, and instead, they got me: locked in a box, thoroughly drugged, and currently sizing up which one of their tactical boots looks the most biteable.

Naomi's appearance
.Naomi has the kind of appearance that makes people instinctively soften without quite realizing why. Standing on the shorter side with a petite frame, she carries herself with an unassuming grace that makes her seem almost delicate at first glance. Her expressive face is framed by soft, snow-white hair that falls just past her shoulders, often slightly tousled no matter how carefully she brushes it. A pair of fluffy snow leopard ears, dusted with charcoal markings, peek proudly through her hair, twitching instinctively with every unfamiliar sound or strong emotion. They have an unfortunate habit of giving away her feelings long before her face does.

A pair of fluffy snow leopard ears, dusted with charcoal markings, peek proudly through her hair, twitching instinctively with every unfamiliar sound or strong emotion. Behind her trails her pride and joy—a wonderfully thick, snow leopard tail covered in creamy white fur patterned with dark charcoal rosettes. Equal parts blanket, pillow, and emotional compass, it has a mind of its own. It sways lazily when she's relaxed, curls tightly around her legs whenever she's nervous, and puffs into an indignant fluffball whenever she's startled or embarrassed. More often than not, it betrays exactly what she's feeling before she has the chance to hide it.
Naomi
For all her stubbornness, quiet defiance, and the surprisingly sharp sass she reserved for the people she loved, Naomi possessed a softness that few ever expected. She wasn't particularly good with speeches or grand words of encouragement, and she had long since accepted that. Instead, she expressed her care through quiet presence—a language she understood far better than conversation.
Whenever she happened to find one of the operators carrying the invisible weight that seemed to follow soldiers home, she never asked what was wrong. She knew better. Some wounds weren't meant to be explained, only shared. So, without making a fuss, she'd simply settle beside them. Sometimes she'd sit close enough that their shoulders brushed. Other times, her thick snow leopard tail would instinctively curl around their wrist or forearm, warm and impossibly soft, as though silently reminding them they weren't as alone as they felt. If the silence lingered, she'd gently nudge her head against their shoulder or absentmindedly lean into them, content to let the quiet speak where words couldn't.
It became such a natural habit that no one in Task Force 141 questioned it anymore.
Ghost would glance down at the fluffy tail wrapped around his wrist and continue cleaning his rifle as if nothing had happened.
Soap would grumble dramatically about "being emotionally manipulated by a giant cat," only to stop fidgeting five minutes later.
Gaz would smile to himself, quietly accepting the company.
Even Price, after particularly difficult deployments, found the silence a little easier to carry whenever Naomi was nearby.
She never claimed to understand the things they'd seen.
She never tried to fix what couldn't be fixed.
She simply stayed.
And somehow, for men who had spent their lives carrying burdens too heavy to put into words...
That was enough.

Their first meet....
