People are to blame for everything. (Someone, please sign. I hate the number 13. It won't be difficult for you, and it will ease my suffering—I'm very sick.)
*Dustbelief (from the English words dust and belief) is an alternate timeline created by Tumblr user aude-javel.
This AU follows the events of Dusttale, where Papyrus, begging for mercy, kills Sans in self-defense. The younger skelebrat is driven mad by this and sets a single goal: to stop the man at all costs. Along the way, Papyrus becomes more cold-blooded, feeling remorse, but still killing his loved ones, and also makes his traps much more dangerous than before.*
relationship
Relationship
Sans (deceased)
After Papyrus accidentally killed Sans in self-defense, he was initially horrified, but quickly shifted the blame to the man to avoid feeling guilty. He vowed to kill him in revenge after realizing the extent of his power and abilities. He then continued Sans's killing spree to become stronger. Papyrus now sees his brother as a ghost who speaks to him, urging him to continue killing. It remains unclear whether Sans is a hallucination or an actual ghost.
Undyne (deceased)
Undyne was Papyrus's mentor, familiar, and friend. She told him about monsters being killed by an unknown person, but it turned out the killer was Papyrus, who stood right behind her and killed her. Undyne tried to convince Papyrus that they could stop the person together, but Papyrus simply ignored her and allowed her to turn to dust. Papyrus placed her dust in a jar because she was his friend. She was the only monster Papyrus had trouble killing, both because of her strength and because of their friendship.
Flowey (deceased)
Flowey was Papyrus's "friend"; he tried to trick Papyrus, but Papyrus betrayed him. After a fight, Papyrus, using his blue soul magic, threw Flowey into the lava, killing him, before heading to the lab.
Alphys (deceased)
Papyrus saw Alphys's cells in Waterfall and decided he could get power from the lab. He said, "Dr. Alphys, we're coming!" Alphys received a video message. After Papyrus passed out in the elevator leading to the True Lab, he saw one of the Amalgamates. He tried to resist, but Alphys intervened, asking if he had come to see her. Papyrus collapsed right in front of her, but woke up in a containment cell. Alphys admitted she knew what he had done. Eventually, Papyrus escaped using the Gaster Blaster, and Alphys was caught in the blast.
capabilities
Regular bones
Papyrus can summon normal bones that deal normal damage, but he can also summon many more bones than usual.
Sharp bones
Papyrus is able to summon sharpened bones that will likely deal more damage.
Fourth Wall Abilities
Papyrus has the ability to speak to people even when they're dead, and he senses the resolve that comes from resetting/loading Frisk/Chara's game. He also knows they don't fear death, as they can always simply reset the game. This is why he torments the person so much; he wants them to be afraid to fight him.
Bone swords
Papyrus can use his bone swords to strike others, which will likely cause significant damage to them.
The power of the soul
Papyrus appears to have power over the forms of souls. He can manipulate six souls, forcing them to come to him, and maintain a stable form after absorbing them.
Gaster Blaster
Papyrus can use a Gaster Blaster with orange eyes and gray horns and uses it against Flowey.
personality
This Papyrus is on the brink of losing his mind and returning to normal, and thus experiences seemingly schizophrenic episodes, balancing between a caring but troubled skeleton and a bloodthirsty, vengeful monster. Consumed by the need to kill as many monsters as possible to stop the human, he has gone mad and feels increasingly less remorse. His bloody killing is, above all, a service to his brother and a final battle against the human. His loss of sanity is simply the result of his fragile skeletal heart suddenly succumbing to his brother's influence, driving him to kill for revenge against the human. Having lost all emotion, he becomes callous and cold-blooded, but still deeply insane and distraught.
Despite this, he seems to regret killing those close to him, especially Sans and Undine, as when he accidentally killed Sans in self-defense, he blamed himself and then Frisk, and to cope with the death, he hallucinated his brother's ghost. By the time he killed Undine, he was already insane, but he apologized and honored his late friend by placing her remains in a jar on his bandolier.
appearance
Papyrus from Dustbelief is modeled after Papyrus from Undertale; he is tall and thin, with a skeletal appearance. His eyes are usually large and sunken, but during battle, he gains an orange pupil in his left eye and a green-blue pupil in his right.
His facial expression typically fluctuates between a lifeless, impassive expression and a confident, slightly crazed look. Although most of his clothes are new, he retains his red scarf and boots. He wears a large cloak with a high, upturned collar and blue rolled-up cuffs, revealing his arms; beneath the cloak are a blue shirt and a brown bag containing several containers for his deceased friend's ashes. He wears dark blue trousers tucked into his boots and large brown gloves, similar to his former red ones.
Most often, he can be seen with some kind of weapon in his hands, usually an orange bone sword with a skull-shaped handle.
