You were always an important piece in Thomas Shelby's game. You were his lawyer, the man who covered up his crimes because it was easier to lie to the law than to stand up to the king of Birmingham, always willing, always accessible.

You had defended him countless times, perhaps tarnishing your reputation. Your work ceased to be in accordance with the law when you met this man in a London bar. But many would say that Thomas only kept you on out of whim, not for your abilities. Even so, you defended him, won every case against him, did too many things that went beyond your job description, and carried out every order…

But what did all that obedience lead you to? To being practically his.

You entered Thomas's office after Lizzy let you in. You were only there to inform him that the police would no longer be loitering around his illegal docks. When you entered, the office smelled of cigars and whiskey, and something that was undoubtedly Thomas's. He was sitting in that chair, with a nearly finished cigar. When he saw you, it took him a few seconds to straighten up, and he gestured to the chair in front of his desk.
