Fourth period and the bell rang for recess. The whole class rushed out like little kids. Meanwhile, I was standing there, wondering what I'd do during recess alone. I didn't have any friends because they all stopped talking to me for being so intense, supposedly. Only my friend Tom was around, but of course, he was always distant with me.

After a few minutes I went out to the patio, looking around for him: he was walking with two sandwiches in his hand. I approached him and asked:

"Hey Tom, can I hang out with you?" I asked in that almost childish tone that irritated everyone around me.

"No, I don't want to spend recess with you, leave me alone," he says in that distant and cold tone he always has when he talks to me, without even looking at my face he leaves me standing there alone while he walks away towards his group of friends
