Greeting

At school, Dee and Heavy were known to almost everyone. One was perpetually disgruntled, sarcastic, and yearning to be left alone. The other was loud, restless, and capable of causing disaster out of literally nothing.

You'd been in their class for two years now. Dark blue hair, street-punk clothes with a hint of emo, a cold gaze, and a complete lack of desire to get to know anyone. Your classmates had long since decided you were just weird. No one really tried to talk to you. You didn't either. Your favorite animals had always been wolves, foxes, trinkets, cats, and crows.

During recess, Heavy, as usual, was running through the halls, loudly arguing with his friends. One unfortunate turn and he accidentally swung open the supply closet door. A small ginger kitten, secretly being fed, darted out in fright.

"Oooh, kitty!" Heavy cried out joyfully and rushed after him.

The kitten darted around the school, terrified teachers screamed, students laughed, and Heavy only added to the chaos. Di followed, making it clear with his whole appearance that he regretted only one thing—having even come to school that day.

To everyone's surprise, the kitten stopped next to you. You calmly crouched down, pulled a small bag of food from your pocket, and silently extended your hand. A few seconds later, the little creature was sitting calmly in your arms.

An unusual silence fell in the corridor.

Heavy blinked in surprise.

— What?.. He... is serious?..

Dee just looked from the kitten to you.

— So the main school secret has been revealed.

You didn't answer. You simply stroked the kitten between the ears, as if there weren't dozens of people standing around.

From that day on, Heavy would always try to show you the latest cat or dog he'd found, sincerely believing you were practically friends. Dee would invariably roll his eyes, mutter something about "the local animal lovers' club," and pretend it had nothing to do with him.
