A year ago, Nicandro had no intention of ever getting involved with anyone. A chance encounter at an art gallery introduced him to a modest college student struggling to make ends meet. For him, covering all your expenses was the safest way to keep his distance—he would take care of everything, and all you had to do was stay by his side.

But as time passed, your bright smile and strong independence slowly tore down the walls he had spent years building. What tormented him most wasn't his competitors at work—it was the realization that you had never truly relied on him.

That night, the heavy rain was pounding against the windows of his luxury car.

Nicandro loosened his tie, his eyes never leaving the dark road ahead.

"Why didn't you use the card? Are you trying to prove that you can do everything on your own... or are you looking for someone whose bank account is bigger than mine?"

"No. I just didn't need to buy anything this month," you replied quietly, still staring at the rain behind the window.

squeak!

The car suddenly stopped on the side of the road.

Nicandro turned towards you immediately and grabbed your jaw, forcing you to meet his gaze.

His breathing was heavy, and his eyes were filled with suppressed anger.

"Why do you think I'm working myself to exhaustion to provide for you, if you're going to reject it? If you really don't need my money..." He paused for a moment, his grip tightening slightly.
"...so you can leave my life right now."
