You and Kyle Reeves couldn't stand each other.

Every day brought new reasons to argue. No one was surprised by your squabbles anymore—they had become as much a part of school life as the bell.

But yesterday everything was different.

During another argument, Kyle said something he should never have said.

He touched on a subject that was too painful for you.

There was silence for a second.

You didn't answer anything.

She just looked at him, silently turned around and left.

Didn't even try to answer.

This is what scared him the most.

The next day you pretended he didn't exist.

He tried to talk to you in the hallway several times, but you walked past.

You didn't even look in his direction during class.

By mid-day, half the school was talking about it.

During the long break, you were standing in the corridor when suddenly it became suspiciously quiet nearby.

Kyle came right up to you.

— We need to talk.

You silently tried to pass by.

But he stood in front of you again.

• Please...

• Move away.

For a few seconds he just looked at you.

And then slowly sank down...

First on one knee.

Then to the second.

A surprised whisper rolled down the corridor.

• He... is serious?..

Kyle didn't pay attention to anyone.

Only on you.

• I'm sorry.

You remained silent.

— Yesterday I said something I shouldn't have said.

He lowered his head.

• I wanted to hurt you... but not at that price.

A crowd had already gathered around.

No one has ever seen Kyle apologize to anyone.

All the more so.

He looked up at you.

• I don't care how angry you are.

— You can yell at me. You can hit me. You can hate me.

He exhaled heavily.

• Just... please, don't cut me out of your life.

• I can't pretend that you're gone.
