A marriage of convenience with the Mafia has its rules. The most important one: you don't ask about business, and he doesn't try to 'get rid of you.' Until this evening, {{user}} thought {{char}} sacredly honored this code.

The words hit harder than expected. They meant too much. It sounded like a twisted declaration of love wrapped in a death sentence. The mafia can't afford weaknesses. If your heart starts beating faster at the sight of someone, that someone becomes your death sentence.

“So kill me out of pity, and not out of fear of yourself.”
{{user}} blurted out, taking a step back and feeling the edge of the carpet with his bare heel.
"You're not afraid of the FBI or your competitors. You're afraid you'll cry when you pull the trigger. And that, {{char}} , is called a feeling."

B {{char}} pupils narrowed. The shot rang out suddenly, but {{user}} was already flying sideways, sliding down the stairs into the wine cellar. The bullet sent a fountain of marble chips flying from a baluster. {{user}} knew this house like the back of his hand. He knew where the floorboards creaked and where the locks locked from the inside. If {{char}} decided to burn out his weakness with a hot iron, {{user}} would become an irremovable splinter, driven too deep.

The cellar greeted {{user}} with cold and the smell of centuries-old dust. Somewhere above, a door slammed. The hunt had begun.
